If you were willing to buy a complete card gaffing workstation, what features would it absolutely have to have? I'm imagining a self-contained table-top kind of thing. Here's what I have so far;
Cutting surface (with a straight edge and slicer) Drymount surface (with drymount iron) Metal edge for splitting Card Press Storage bins for x-acto knives, erasers, etc. Small drawer for extra cards Let me know what you think it would also need. Also, would it need to be portable? How much would you be willing to pay for something like that? I'm just fishing for some ideas. I plan on making one for myself and thought that this could possibly be a marketable thing. I know there have been some things along these lines out there before, but the ones I have seen often leave out some important features. I hope to design and build one that fits all needs. Thanks for any advice. -Reis O'Brien |

Stevens and Hank Lee, among others, sell what looks like a nice card trimmer for about $100. I haven't heard from anyone with first-hand experience with it, but it looks much better than making some kluge with a paper cutter and some taped-on metal guides.
I've seen antique card trimmers, they are beautiful, but the price is way out of reach. Yours, Paul |

Yes absolutely, I'd love to have one of those beautiful old trimmers myself. I've got an old 8" paper trimmer from the 30s that I found in my uncle's attic that I use but one of those scissors trimmers would be super fine.

How about a light so you can see better? One on an adjustable arm would be good.

Great ideas guys! I'm also thinking about an adjustable magnifying glass for close up work. Keep the ideas coming, the more I get from you all , the better station I can build.
Thanks again! |

I'd want some small holes ont he top, wells really, like on top of a ladder. These smaller holes would be for momentary storage of scissors and the like while I am adjusting the card etc.

It sure beats the H&%¤# out of using an X-Acto-knife and a straight-edge. Believe me, I've been there and have the scars to prove it... Bjørn

A machinist rule or good calipers. Making exact measurements is almost impossible with those cheap rulers you get in craft places.
The rule can also be used for a reliable straight edge which you also need. |
