When I was a teenager, I did a show for a men's club at a nice restaurant. After pulling out a mouth streamer, I moved into an effect with a piece of flash cord. I did not light the cord all the way from the bottom and a piece of burning cord fell into the pile of mouth coils...starting the pile of paper on fire. I did not notice and the men started laughing hysterically. When I noticed...I started stamping the fire out. Everyone thought that this was part of my routine...except for the restaurant manager. The look on his face was priceless as I stamped the fire out on a carpeted floor. Luckily there was no burns on the floor...no damage at all. I learned many harsh lessons about the importance of being a well-prepared magician on that day.

My very first show I used a new table. It was not as steady as I thought it was, and needless to say it fell over right in the beginning of my show. Then I used a real glass in my bill to nut and it fell and broke! My jellybean can with snake flew across the room and spilled over a lady's cup of coffee, a fireball almost set the ceiling on fire and I have it all on tape!
The audience thought it was all part of the act!!! I learned soooooooooo much from that!

The first time I did Oscar Munoz's silk to egg, was at a twelve year old girl's birthday party. While I was pushing the silk into my fist, I cracked the egg, and it went all over me and the floor. It was absolutely horrible, but hilarious at the same time. Try playin' that one off!

Once, I opened my stage act by producing a pan of fire from underneath a cape. One night, I pulled the pan out, pulled the trigger, and ignited the flashpaper I had wedged in place. The flashpaper, ignited, and came flying out, up in the air, got caught in the draft of the air condtioning in the auditorium, and headed straight down my open shirt (I was wearing a John Travolta official Saturday Night Fever suit with shirt open to the middle of the chest... I was A LOT younger in those days). I smelled burning hair, but went on with the show. Afterwards, 12 of my 15 chest hairs were singed beyond repair.

What I learned? It's REALLY hard to smile while your chest is on fire.

Hi Jongallagher,

Well I'm glad you got that off your chest!
