The book is fantastic. Then again, what else would you expect from Richard Osterlind? It certainly has made me rethink some of my perfromance philosophy and style.

I'll better buy this one too. I suppose there is a lot of new thoughts in this book in relation to the other e-books I have by Mr. Osterlind Making magic real, making real magic etc.
Looking forward to read this :r. Osterlind - your material always seems to amaze me in it's effect, simplicity (ingenious), and pragmatic methods. Thanks a lot for sharing. |

Thanks Richard, the e-book and inside the fold sound great. Only decision is whether to wait for the hardcover edition.

He may mean the hardcover edition, Jim. We're eagerly awaiting the 2010 hardcover limited edition of the Encyclopedia of Osterlind. It could go on my (nomadic) shelf right next to my 2.5 volumes of the Magic Menu.

Got it and started reading last night. Richard, thanks a lot, this is a very worthy follower to your e-books Making magic real, Making real magic and Essays. I can only say that it is very challenging to read magic litterature that makes you think deeper about what you are really trying to achieve towards and together with your audience.
BTW, still working to get my cups and balls routine in to a full fledged "making magic real" routine. that's is pretty hard - it's much easier with my vanishing hank ending with a silk fountain routine - but it's strong practice - and just a lot of fun. |

Thanks Jim for reading my mind:) Soft cover is even better.

Jim Sisti/Richard Osterlind,
I am hoping you guys should consider just printing hard copy because I've seen some thieves selling e-book ,worst still put it for free download in some dodgy website (please don't ask me what website),and I've been shown by my lay-friend that he's got some of your ebook (including the bisiness of magic) for free.Besides,i am sure in long run, ebook is not saving you more $$ for printing cost etc. Seriously concerned, MagoStevo

I'm confused, Stevo. You sign off your post as being "seriously concerned" yet you ask us to not inquire about the "dodgy website." (I guess there's concerned and then there's concerned...)
Seriously, Richard and I realize that there's a certain amount of piracy and dishonesty and just as you can find our products running around in the wild, you can also download .VOB files of all of the latest magic videos right next to the .MP3s of the new Green Day CD. At the end of the day, the people who engage in this sort of behavior are 1) never going to be paying customers anyway - they don't buy anything they can download - so the economic impact on our sales is, in reality, very, very minimal and 2) basically dishonest people who are not really worthy of our time or notice and we simply prefer to keep them off of our radar screens. This, of course, begs the questions - why does a "lay-friend" care about magic e-books and why do you hang around with thieves? I do appreciate your concern for our business but my advice would be that your time would seem to be far better spent on getting the answers to those questions. |

Wow, I think that stinks. I agree that stevo shouldn't post the website here for all of us to see, but he should certainly let you guys know who's doing this!

Anabelle, I disagree on one point and one point only. I think Stevo SHOULD publish the criminal website. I only hope that it's here in the states, so I can get Guido and a few of the boys to visit the thieves and talk logic to them.

There wasn't anything confusing about Stevo not posting the link to the website. I feel he doesn't want to provide the link out of respect for Richard Osterlind. I'm sure he meant everyone else except for Jim and Richard.
Perhaps he should send the link to Jim or Richard Osterlind in a pm. I don't agree that he should post it in the main forum. |

Back to the topic....this is an excellent book and I recommend it highly. Richard really forces the reader to examine his/her act. Is your act that of an artist? Richard discusses in Depth what an artist is and what art is. And so much more. This book will cause you think regardless of your experience in performing. It is really a fine, fine book.

Jim,
Thanks for your reply, but I decided not to publish website after discussion with someother magicians, the reasons being: 1)there is no link or what so ever,it's a website that manage to get away without being prosecuted by merely providing a forum-like server that allows peer sharing of registred members (fortunately the website is by-invitation-only website that has size limitation of member registration, and presently it's approaching it's limit) 2)I am not the member of the website and never will. 3)Simply I don't want make things worst. I don't call my lay-friend thieve because he just came across it by accident, while he was downloading someother stuff which doesn't bother me at all as a magician. Quote:

Best of luck, MagoStevo

The book is great. I love seeing magic considered as art and compared to other arts. Thinking this way gives so much to the decisions we make.
