I always practice, while watching TV, watching DVD movies, always have the cards in my hand. I usually practice flourishing, trying to make myself get use to the move, and its working pretty good so far.
Nice to meet you

I almost always practice while watching TV. It helps me make my coin and card handling second nature. This way I can focus more on my patter than worrying about pulling off the move or sleight.

I hate practicing, because I don't know where to start off!
Usually start something, lose interest, read something cool, practice..repeat. Sometimes I smoke a pipe before practicing, you might like to be just like me.

Practice for me becomes very frustrating when I'm not getting results from what I'm trying to achieve, so I give up - and achieve nothing! I haven't found a way around that yet.

I have no problem practicing sleights, I often sit at the computer or somewhere with a deck of cards or some coins in my hands,I practive palming coins as often as I can, shuffle a lot controlling a card or a few, practice fanning and other flourishes (the coin roll down is one I practice a lot, with either hand). When I'm being watches, I spin a pen, or practice coin flourishes (the extra dexterity is useful even if it's not a sleight). My main problem is practicing the routines, I DO do it, but not as often as I should, I also need more performance practice, I perform for flatmates or for my girlfriends family, however, I need to do it more, and for more people.
I find that for technical proficiency just find a way to do it while doing something else, for one thing it makes it easier to be able to make it look casual and natural. Practicing routines needs you to actually sit down and practicethe effect, this you'll need to set out some time to do. Hope that gives someone ideas.
Regards,

I like to practise. When I able to master some difficult sleights I just feel so glad. My props may spoil or loss, but the fruit I reap from my practise will never gone.

I cannot sday that I LOVE to practice, but after a long day of classes and schoolwork, I Look forward to a couple hours practing my current card slieght most of all. If I hadd all the time in the world I would probably be the worst magcician ever. practice is a good release that I find close to meditation. I put on some music, sit in front of my mirror, and it's just me and the cards. No pressure, deadlines, audience or anything to worry about.
In short, no I don't LOVE practicing, but I certainly enjoy it.

I don't know why but I'm actually addicted to practicing. It really is like medidation. At first when you begin practicing something, it's usually hard, and requires a lot of brain power. You need to analyze everything and make sure you've got the concept down. Once that's done I just kick into auto pilot and from there it's a very smooth ride. You got it, I love to practice.

I think it was Dai Vernon who said he gets as much delight (if not more) out of practicing than the actual performance itself! Some people practice and practice yet never improve. Why? Because they're practicing incorrectly. They don't understand how a move/effect should be performed so end up compounding the problem.

I do not love practicing per se, but I do love playing with cards, especially if there's nothing else to do. You know these moments when you are bored stiff, when you are waiting for someone who is late, or the TV program you are watching has taken a boring twist, etc. My hands just reach for a deck on the table or in my pocket, and I start playing around with some sleight I have problems with. It happens automatically, it's some kind of addiction (physical or psycological - you figure). It's not so much of a practise, but it does have a positive effect on my skills.
I do practice in front of a mirror (I mean really practice), though. |

I do not have sufficient time to 'practice' all that I want to learn, but I do love it when the effort, the moves, and the final result all come together. It's a thing of beauty. The only problem is, I know I still have six more months of polish before I can show it to anybody!

Practice is fun, I love it, my only downside is when to stop practicing and start performing, some things I think I may practice forever and not get to show anybody,I used to practice with coins at my girlfreinds in the evening while watching tv, but the clinking drove everybody mad so it's just one coin now, but most of the day when I can I've got a coin or two nearby,I work for my self and I'm worried my productivity is going down due to practice, anyway got to go and practice some more.
Take it steady GG. |

I really like to practice. Heck, I have a deck of cards in my hands now, so I can make typing a little more difficult and slower :-P

Oh I do, I even like it a lot...ofcourse nothing beats performing to the live audience, and I have discovered, that the more I have to perform, the less I practice.

All the pain of practicing will pay off in the long run - increased confidence and improved utility - especially if you are practicing basic sleights and moves!
