I think you need to have a headline or USP on the front side of your card. Actually, I wouldn't mind seeing some of what you put on the back side on the front and then having more specific details on the back.
I think you're missing out on an opportunity to sell yourself by not having anything but your name on the front. You might want to see what the front side of the card would look like if you put the same text on the front as you have on the back, only in reverse type. If it's not too busy, then you have an opportunity to put a lot more info on the back. Michael |

Having a 2 sided business card is one of the best things you can do to get more business. On my cards, on one side I have my name, usp, phone number, and web site. On the other, 2 brief quotes from past clients, phone number, and web site. I would agree with Michael, put something more on front of the card. It has cool graphics, but that won't sell you. Think about what sets you apart from others and say that on front.

Andy,
I agree that you need a USP on this card (SleightlySmall, a USP is your "Unique Selling Proposition" or what sets you apart from your competition in one phrase -- its a little more complicated than that, but for that's a short definition). Also Andy, I think the text above your name on the front may be a bit too small. Other than that, not too bad. I like the simple design. MK |

Thanks, Michael, but I already have a printer.
I don't quite think that you should pack a business card with so much information. People get a business card (a) after seeing the performer in person or (b) after getting it (along with a recommendation) from a friend. So, the chances are good that the cardholder already knows I'm a good magician. Also, if a card is colorful, unique, and professional, that's what will set you apart from the rest, right? Thanks for you thoughts, Andy |

"Also, if a card is colorful, unique, and professional, that's what will set you apart from the rest, right?"
Most people think that, as well as "If my web site has a lot of flash and cool graphics I'll get booked more." Nothing could be further from the truth. If you have a web site with all that stuff, that's great, mostly for one's ego, but statistics show that it won't sell. Copy (or words) sell far more better than anything. My friend has a really cool web site with flash, graphics, the whole shabang. He spent thousands on it, I spent a few hundred and I out sell him all the time. I've even heard clients say that my site is more informative. Granted if a person sees your show and asks for a card that is great, however, they still need to know what you do, how well you do it, etc. I have clients who have booked me over and over again and I still send them my sales letter that re-tells them who I am, what I do and a lot more. Think about this; If your name off the business card and get a bunch of other cards from other magicians, with no names on them as well and mix them up, what will make a prospective client pick your card over all the other ones? The cool graphics and very brief descriptions won't do it. Just my thoughts after years of marketing experience. |

BubbleBurst, I couldn't agree with you more! I've been selling my shows for over 6 years and have learned a lot. A lot of what I've learned is from trial and error and also reading a lot of marketing books by the likes of Brian Tracy, Tom Hopkins, Dan Kennedy, and numerous other top marketers...and I'm still learning.
I hope your above comment was not a bash about my web site, because after 5 different web sites, that one (www.Corporate-Success.com) has served me well and has made me a lot of money. It is just works for me, might not work for you, that's ok. My double lift is probably different than yours, it doesn't mean I'm right or wrong, it just works for me. Thanks for visiting my site though! |

Hi what is the size of the business card? From the photo seems a bit larger then normal.
After the size of 8cm x 4cm they don't enter well in the wallet, so people don't keep them for too much time. |

I'm interested in information that is beyond opinion. Elsewhere here, I found citations of a site that discusses marketing & design principles that were clear and concise.
I've been reading this and other postings regarding business decisions, and I sometimes find myself wanting to yell at the screen (not a sign of mental health), "Ladies and Gentlemen, There Are Some Things That Are Beyond Opinion!" That's what I'm looking for. Industries spend millions of dollars understanding why people purchase things; how people perceive things; what information stays and what goes. For example, one principle is the "Rule of Three," which I'll leave experts to explain rather than butcher here. But it's ubiquitous in marketing campaigns. So are there DATA BASED insights about card design? I appreciate that many of you share your personal experiences, and I find some of them quite interesting. But what I'd REALLY love to find out is how people convince millions to part with their billions, beginning with a compelling card design. Always Truly Yours, ATPG
