Have you ever had one of those moments where you cant remember any more tricks after people have been demanding trick after trick for like 30 minutes? I was in a park today and I decided to sort of cut people off with Aldo Colombini's Fireworks routine. It was awesome but they wanted more. The people wouldnt let me leave. I said that was it. Then I remembered I had the Wild Levitation gimmick installed and performed it and that was a nice ending.
A couple of hours later I find myself at a dinner party performing for friends. Later on I was invited into the kitchen to perform for the chefs. One of them tried to pay me (I rejected the money but took an extra shrimp cocktail). Eventually I have run out of tricks to perform. I came with just a deck of cards and the items found around me. I couldn't remember anything. So I said I was done. I came back home and I remembered I had the wild levitation gimmick in place. I nearly kicked myself for not performing it. I hadnt performed it for any of them before and I coulda, ARG!!!!!!! Have you ever had one of those times where you just forget that one killer trick you love to perform and how do you remember the 1001 tricks with every day objects that every magician should know? Yes, been there.
A while ago I decided to limit my impromptu routines to only a few (3-5) easy tricks and leave them wanting more. Even if I do have more to show they will have to wait until next time. I don't carry cards but if they're available I will only do one or two effects, with one being the 'killer'. |
