Magicalaurie,
I just am unsure about your intellectual commitment to this topic.

My favorite color is orange.
Bet that ranks high in the survey. Geoff

Of course I am intellectually committed to this topic, Chris. I started this topic, yes?
The difficulty in discussion sometimes, is getting everyone on the same page. In order to have a discussion, more than one person must commit intellectually. A survey doesn't require this. The answers can be given independently of one another, and can often consist of a single word without an explanation. So far, we've had a fairly successful survey of favorite colours. If the question "Why?" were added, perhaps we would end up with a discussion about the colours. In which case I believe we would learn more about the people involved in the discussion, too. A discussion provides more substantial information than a survey, I believe. An important point to remember in written discussions: READ THE s. s can be very helpful in providing context for a statement. Some people (like Whit ) like to leave them out. In his case, it's o.k., though. See his photo. It provides context for him on many occasions. The source of a statement must be taken into consideration, not just the words themselves. The sources are vital considerations regardless of whether it is a discussion or a survey that is being conducted. |

Well, I like blue the best. I don't know why.
And you are definately right that it is hard to keep some people on the same page in a discussion. Sometimes I hope for the same galaxy. BTW, I have seen some surveys that are like that too. And I need to use more 's myself.

Did you tell us your favorite colour, Whit? Mine isn't really purple. In the case of my statement of purple, consideration of the source and the were very important in understanding the true intent of the message.
I'm not sure if I still have a favorite colour. When I was a child, my favorite colour was red. Something to consider in a discussion or a survey is whether the information being provided is factual. Matters are complicated when information that is not factual is provided. Thankyou for the , Whit. Very much appreciated. |

I read the whole topic before saying anything. Unfortunately most topics are as predictable as the usual crowd who post in them. Fortunately, this one wasn't.

When did the cast of Monty Python join The Magic Café'? Some of the posts on these last few pages seem to remind me of "The Argument Skit"!

Oh no she wasn't.
I wonder if she will... I'm sorry, but this isn't an argument. It's just contradiction |
