I would like to produce a long silk (or silk like) streamer. I am wondering how I should package it up to produce it. The ideal effect would just be producing it like a Kabuki streamer. But for rolling it up, should I actually "roll it up" or fold it over several times?

Also what is the best way to keep it "rolled up" and to steal it? (obviously with misdirection).

If you're lookin to produce it like a throw streamer, the best bet is to roll it. If you want it to appear very quickly, I would accordian fold 2/3 of it then roll the rest. As for holding it, try a bobby-pin attached to a saftey pin as a holder. Hope this helps.

Weight on end of the streamer slightly. Starting with that end place two cardboard discs on a pencil distanced apart the width of the streamer. Chuck the pencil in a drill and wind. Secure the end with a rubber or piece of tissue paper. To produce slip off the rubber band, hold the end and throw.

Before paper streamers, ribbons were used. Karl Germain used ribbons as did many others of his era. General Grant still uses ribbon for a dove production. His lecture notes or video give description.

Rewinding them will save you money provide you have the time and energy to do so.

Another option for the streamer is to use a silk winder. It gives you a bundle and pull out the middle like a mylar coil.

Tony Calrk has a nice streamer production, but for $40 it's really over priced. He produces a 6 ft, streamer from simple gloves. It's is a great illusion. I always add a little glitter to mine.

How long will it be? 6 ft. 10 ft. 20 ft. in this case size does matter, this will determin lots of factors as to hw you would steal ditch and or pruduce the streamer

Ah, I forgot to mention the size heh.

I don't have the streamer yet, but I imagine it being red, about 15 ft long probably 4 inches wide.

Then I would invest in a 'heavy ribbon', roll it and produce it from a red hanky.

There was an Asian guy, I forget his name, that produces umbrellas in his act if that helps. He sells a really long thin (think thickness not width) mylar coil with winder. It looks great and it just pours and pours and you can throw it then pour it some more.

I think that is the mylar coil production from Klamm magic. Lance uses it at the end of his bird cagezombie routine. At least he use to.

Sounds more like something that Fukai was selling. In most cases, I can how you would want a thinner streamer, but I want the one I have to be a little thicker (then what you described) to give it some more weight. I will be using it to cover some stuff and if it is too light, I am afraid that the ribbons would move more then they should.

As I said, a heavy ribbon, roll it and it will shoot out just fine.

I use a 150' x 1" mylar coil in my act. It runs about 30 seconds. I can furnish them in various colors. I use red in my act.. I can also get blue, purple, silver, gold. 5o' coils run $8 and 150' coils run $25.

If you are using silk streamers, a Rosini silk winder might fit the bill for you. It will allow you wind a large streamer into a small place. It will not allow you to throw it out but it is a great way pack a lot of streamer in a small space.

I am still open for what I am looking for. However there are 2 things I am sure of.
1. I really would prefer using a fabric streamer over a mylar one.

2. I think 1" might be a little thin for doing productions with. Then again, if it is 150 inches long, bunched up, it might work...

I need more time to think! I will keep this in mind though

My mylar ribbons are 150 feet not inches. But I know what you mean.

I would get some two inch satin ribbon, weight one end and play with that. General Grant uses this all the time and is explained in his notes or video.

Man it must take some time to produce that ribbon heh (30 seconds you said!)

What would you recommend for weighting the ends?

Also would it be worth it to have the ends hemmed? Or just buy a streamer from a magic shop?

You will have to experiment with the necessary weight. Use round rod. Maybe start with a peice of 1/4 x about 1 3/4". Just use fabric glue until you get what you need weight wise.

You can use Fray check (ask at a fabric store or Wallmart) on the ends to keep them from unraveling. If you are using 2" ribbon, just get it at a store. If you use a real silk streamer, it will behave much different than a ribbon.

Anywhere where I can just buy a 15 ft 2-3 inch silk streamer?

Also how could it be held together? I think you said how to above but it didn't make sence Smile

Thanks!
