Hello Everyone,
I just wanted to ask if anyone does readings following their act? What type of readings do you do? I like to offer my audience a little one on one with the Tarot myself. I was wondering if anyone used Rune Stones or any thing else for readings? Also, what kind of reactions does it get? Thanks

Hi Magickman
I do (short) readings DURING my act, based on palmistry, graphology or cartomancy. This sometimes leads to longer readings being requested afterwards, based on palmistry/ cartomancy. The short readings are an integral part of the act, because I lean more towards mentalism than mental magic; they provide me with an acceptable premise for the display of "psychic powers". Palmistry and cartomancy (I don't do Tarot readings) have served me fine, both for short and long readings. During the act, I also use some unusual readings (tree drawing reading for example) which seem well received by the audience. I got that idea in one of Richard Webster's books (Cold Reading Variations). Hope that helps. Best regards. Eric

Eric,
Thanks for the response. Richard Webster has some incredible books out. I met him at one of Doc's Weerd Weekends. I have his book on Home Psychic Parties --it is one of my favorite books! If you don't have it, look for it! Thanks again!

My wife who participates in my act as my assistant sometimes performs tarot readings and / or palm readings following the act. Normally we only do this when the conditions are right, such as when I have been performing specifically bizarre or haunted magic and the group is not large.
This usually gets a very strong response, I assume because of the atmosphere we have created. Having her reading cards / palms also serves as a method to occupy a first group that has already seen the act if a second one to perform for becomes available. Let us know if you try other scrying methods and what the results are!

I'm currently working on an act with a crystal ball (I contact juggle, which becomes a hook) then after the show my crystal allows me some very unique powers I plan to offer the insight of my crystal ball for individuals who have the time... and of course donations, though never expected... are always graciously accepted

I was thinking of doing something along the same lines (I think we mentioned this is another thread), after viewing Docc's tape, I think there is a street rountine there, I think it needs to be changed to be more street friendly, but it can work. You may want to check Docc's tape out: perfect mental club act.

IMHO, It's always difficult to do cold reading with a group.
In fact, it's very powerful in 1 to 1 conditions but it can be borring for the other spects... not concerned directly by the reading. Nevertheless, I like to put 1 or to line (a simple Barnum effect) in 1 of my stories, because it feet to it. Moreover, it can be accepted by the other spects as a normal part of the story. But it's very difficult to manage well in a routine.

I disagree...
I often do cold readings for groups, and it's hardly boring! The 'trick' is to keep things moving very fast... only spend 1-2 minutes per person and move on to the next person in the group.

I agree with Philemon in that group readings can be very effective, convincing, and entertaining for everyone in the group.
In table to table work, often I will have the whole group lay out their palms and I will read the group concurrently. Comparing personalities and commenting on couple's compatibilities/differences is hugely entertaining to a group who know each other -- especially if you can perform the reading in an accurate, good-natured, and timely fashion. Being that the readings are done after the act, you dont have to worry about entertaining everyone. I use a routine in my show where I have spectator and do a reading for that person. By way of MAGICK, I devine addresses, names, and numbers for credibility. The cards are laid out on a cloth I made that has the pictures of the zodiac on it. At the end of the reading I use a pendelum to devine the persons sign.
When I offer readings after the show, people line up. Here I tell them due to the time limitations I have to do short readings. Although I do make house calls.
