I'm lookng to buy these Mental effect by El Duco's and was wondering if anyone could review these for me.
Around the Clock: Around the Clock is a simple and direct prediction with a watch. Introduce your nice pocket watch. Tell the spectator that you set the time as a prediction. Close the lid over the watch face and give it to the spectator to hold. Show a round disc made like a clock face. Turn the face down and ask the spectator to place a small cloth peg at any place around the disc. Absolutely no force! Turn over the disc to show the clock face again. Let's assume he has marked "eleven o'clock" with the peg. Ask him to open the pocket watch. It shows exactly "eleven o'clock!!!" Everything is examinable. You can repeat it with different result every time! Comes complete with the nice pocket watch, which is full working quartz watch, the dial and full instruction. Magic Signs: Ask any leading performer about rule number one in mentalism and he will answer: Mental magic must be direct and stright to the point. Otherways the audience will lose interest in your performance. If you agree, then MAGIC SIGNS is for you. You show five elegant chips made of brass. Each chip is blank on one side and has one of the well known Rhine symbols on the other side: Circle, Cross, Wavy lines, Square and Star. - Before you even think of any of the symbols I will try to predict which one you are going to chose in your mind. First I am going to mix them up and then mark one on the back. With great secrecy you take a marker and make a sign, your initials or anything else, on the back of one of the chips. Then you mix again and place them face up on the table. The spectator is told to think of the one symbol only. After the choice he or she is to tell everybody which symbol it is. Let’s assume that the spectator thinks of the Star. You immediately place the chip with the Star face up in his hand. ”Don’t look at the back yet”, you expalin and start turning the other four chips over, one by one. As it turns out, no one has any sign on it’s back. Now you ask the spectator to turn his thought of chip over. IT HAS YOUR INITIALS, OR WHATEVER YOU HAVE CHOSEN TO DRAW, ON THE BACK OF THE CHIP!!! The brass chips are of highest quality; the secret is ingenious. The fine craftman- ship and the material is quite expensive. On the other hand, for the discriminating performer, MAGIC SIGNS may very well be invaluable. On Board: This will NOT leave your audieuce speechless! INSTEA and discuss how it was possible for a long time after the s On the table is a sealed cloth bag with your prediction all the time. Tell the audience that you will try all experiment where SHOULD READ YOUR MIND FOR ONCE! Call attention to the cloth bag and explain that you have' ber, the name of a playing card, a geometric sign -whatever. The spectator is given a note pad and asked to try to co have written down. When finished, he (or she) shows eve on the note pad in an effort to match your prediction. You now take the sealed cloth bag and give it to the spectators. THE BAG AND TAKES OUT THE BOARD HIMSELF. ON THE BOARD IS WRITTEN EXACTLY THE SAM THE NOTE PAD!!! The spectator can examine everything -both the board g. Please note; the message or the drawing on the board is w d can be .,een from long distance in a theatre. There is no "fishing". No stooges are involved. No nail wr electronics. This works with a different principle. Importa t hoppers ON BOARD resets in seconds! The size of the board is 18 x 25 cm (7 x 10 inches). It is complete with everything you need. Necklace Prediction: Necklace Prediction. Here is a different mental effect using dice. You show a little jewel box which you put on the table. Inside is your prediction. From a glass containing four different colored dice, a spectator may freely choose one die. You too choose one of them. Ask the spectator if he wants to change with you or keep the first one. The box is opened and you produce a necklace with a die linked to it. The die is the same color as the one selected by the spectator! Complete with first class material! Your Lucky Number: Your Lucky Number. From a wallet, you take a piece of cross-ruled paper. Have a spectator to assist you. Ask for the spectator's birth date. Year, month and day. Note this in one of the squares. Ask for a few seconds time for consideration and fill in the squares with figures. Hand over the paper to the spectator. Ask him to add up his birth date. Which means, that he adds the year, month and day. Let's say the total will be 78. This is his "LUCKY NUMBER". Put this in the special square on the paper. Ask the spectator, with help of a matrix, to adds up 4 figures at a time in the square. He can do this, diagonally, vertical, horizontally and four in a square. ALL combinations give the same result: 78! HIS LUCKY NUMBER! If the above was amazing, the following will shock him! From the wallet, which has been in full view all the time, you take an sealed envelope, open it and ask the spectator to take out the card. On the card he reads: "YOUR LUCKY NUMBER IS 78!" Time in Darkness: There are already some effects on the market where the performer predicts the time on a watch set by a spectator. But this is an ENTIRELY NEW PRINCIPLE that enables you to read the spectator's thoughts, without any gimmicked watch involved. Use the spectators own watch. Sounds too good to be true? Please read on: The spectator takes his or her own wrist watch and sets the hands at ANY TIME while your back is turned. He then hides the watch so NOBODY can see it, face down in his closed fist. You now introduce a small, black cloth bag and a white string. You turn it inside out to show that it's empty. IT'S ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE THROUGH THE OPAQUE CLOTH OF THE BAG! The spectator is told to put his closed fist in the bag and leave the watch there. He is then told to close the bag, to tie the string around the opening. THE WATCH IS NOW IN COMPLETE DARKNESS! The spectator is told to concentrate on the time he set. You write a prediction on a piece of paper and give it to the spectator to hold. The moment of truth has arrived: for the first time the spectator reveals the time he has set. For example: "A quarter to seven." He is told to unfold the paper and read it loud. "A quarter to seven!!" he screams! He is of course as surprised as the rest of the audience and gives the piece of paper to anybody to read. You open the bag and take out the watch to verify the time. This is simply a sensational effect. Please read the facts all over again, it's exactly how the audience sees it, exactly what happens. Some thrilling facts: * You never touch the watch during the whole routine. * No stooges are involved. * No electronic or magnetic systems. * No questions asked. * There is no set up whatsoever. * Borrow any watch, pocket watch or wrist watch, from the spectator. That's a lot I know. But if anyone could review these and also PM me if these take sleight of hand, palming, switches, false moves, anything like that. Thank you in advance.......

I dont have this effects, but I have seen them been performed and they works fine.
I think if I was too buy some of the effects it would be these; Magic Signs and Your Lucky Number. My favourite El Duco effect is his Ring in Salt, very nice effect. http://www.el-duco.se/ |

These items seem a bit, well I wouldn't be attracted to them. They are a bit mental magic for my taste but it that's your thing I will make a couple of comments:
First of all I haven't come across these specific items. Around the Clock: Why have a peg board clock. Seems a bit unnecessary to me. You might want to look at Banachek's PK time. Magic Signs: I have seen this marketed by Davenports as "Prediction Chips". Which is basically the same thing but with colours on them instead of symbols. To me the working was obvious, contrived props, but other people seemed amazed. It is casually examinable, but won't stand up to more rigorous inspection. Necklace Prediction: The warning sign for me is - "You show a little jewel box". This is usually a sign that its more of a toy. The jewel box is of a cheap plastic variety that you would never want to show to anyone because of its tackyness. Lucky Number - Tradtional ways are available to do this. Look at just about any book on general mentalism. Time In Darkness - Why put the watch in the cloth bag anyway. Why not have it kept in the spectator's hand. This alone would make stay clear of it. Hope this helps, Regards, Kris Sheglova
The above is all rubbish, except that which you chose to believe

I have Magic Signs, but it languishes in a drawer and never sees the light of day. Well made 'poker chip' style effect in brass, but very much a mental trick.
Amusing, but no more.

I love dice effects and was curious about Necklace Prediction myself. Does anyone own this effect? If so, a review would be greatly appreciated. Also, I am interested in purchasing Magic Signs from anyone who is willing. Preferably someone in the states.

Magic Signs is not a bad effect if you change it a bit. It sat in my drawer for a couple of years before I decided to rework it. I didn't like the fact that you had to ask the spec to tell you the sign they chose - I tell them. Then I reveal that one of the chips has had a prediction written on the back from the beginning. I don't write anything on the chips in front of them. Dress it up in an interesting box and you have a nice effect. I always get a good response from that one.

I only own two of his effects, Magic Signs and the Close-Up Ring Routine. Both are made very well and I have had them for at least a decade.

I've owned Magic Signs for years and just started performing it this weekend. The reactions have been incredible which pretty much qualified it as a keeper in my professional close-up repertoire.

For the time in darkness, do you bring a black cloth bag for the spectator??? are these usually carried by people these days?
