The incinuation is that the only people that are so attracted to these cards are those that have spent little to no time learning the history of the art.
Or... They rely on the "ultra cool kardz 2 do the magic for them". I do have to disagree though. I think every single person who owns a black deck MUST perform the snap change, therefore I would HOPE that the name Ed Marlo has crossed their lips at one time or another. (can I see a video without the snap change, or at least one with some thought put into it, please?) I wonder if Jimmy "Cards" has ever used these cards? How about it, Jimmy, ever use 'em? By the way, Michiel, are you a Dave Grohl look-alike, or what?

Don't buy a trick deck that's a tiger?
Oh now, you must explain that. Why should it matter? Are you saying it's okay to use a deck that looks tricked, but not a trick deck that looks tricked? That goes back to my previous statement. Why do we bother finding Bicycle brand Svengalis for $6 a pack when the dollar store sells them for a buck?

In your situation, "justifying" why it's black in your patter does nothing to dispel the assumption that it's a trick deck. Still, that's not reason not to use the deck. If there is some theme or style with your routine that suggests the black deck is appropriate, and you like to perform with it, go for it. But if you do, I would highly suggest early on that you make a big show of letting a spec thoroughly examine the deck to at least partially dispel the suspicion of a trick deck. |

I don't own one of these decks as they do not suit me or my style. Having said that, making blanket statements about people who do isn't right. Having said THAT, I'm sure there are some of people who use the deck for completely superficial reasons. And how can you blame them? If I were just getting into magic and I stumbled upon the Ellusionist site, I'd be pretty taken with their flashy marketing too.
Everything depends upon presentation and character. These cards probably suit a lot of people who have a dark character and/or presentation.

I think the main point with the "Tigers" is this. When you plan a new routine you need to take in to consideration how you want to be perceived by your audience. If you want to be seen as "gothic" or a hip "street style" magician than Tiger Backs may suit you aim better than red or blue backed cards. I choose everything about my act very carefully, because of this I refuse to use Bikes, this is because there are allot of magicians working near me and on more than one occasion people have told me that they have seen another magician using those cards - and that’s even before I have performed any magic!
This is all part of your image, if Tiger Backs enhance your image and your audience’s perception of you, then use them!

I've stated before that they remind me of bad black velvet canvas paintings, and so for me it's primarily a matter of taste.
It's also - from what I've seen - difficult to make out what the suit and value of each card is at a distance. I also don't like the implication that by merely switching to one of these god awful decks, my magic is going to magically have triple the effect on any spectator present - don't we all wish it were this easy? If you obviuosly miss the point. Let me give you an example. If you use cards with my little pony on the back, people will percive you as aiming magic at young girls. If you use action man, then young boys. If you use cards with balloons and confetti then you are probably a comedy magician. If you use cards with naked ladies, then an adult magician or a sleaze bag! If you use normal Blue or Red then probably quite normal. If you use red cards, wear a red tie, and use a red close up matt then you look very professional. And the same with black cards, if most of your dress and presentation is black, then use black cards, they are going to fit in much better than blue ones, or even better still - ones with my little pony on them!

So, the answer to the question seems to be: most people on here seem to hate the Black Tiger decks because they are black.

Sheydon, I don't think I've missed any point.
I just said why I don't like them. They're kitschy, difficult to make out, and do not improve my or anyone elses magic threefold. I don't care if you or anyone else can make them fit your image; good for you if you can. I don't like them - see above. A. I don't like horses either.

I don't use them and wouldn't be caught dead using them, it's not my image, its obviously not your image, but there are lots of styles of magic, you need to open your mind and discover that ther are many people that black tigers will suit.
