If you do try them, be forewarned: once you go Black Tiger, you'll never go back!

Kid - glad I amuse you mate!
But, seriously for a moment, I admit to owning a deck of these and using them once. People did comment on them as "ooh, they are nice..." (I ad-libbed the rest ) But somewhere within the Café pages, someone came up with a valid point, (I think!) that these decks are good for 'dark places' like nightclubs (!) Why we would want to be performing card magic in a nightclub is, perhaps, the subject of another thread in its own right! Personally, I'll be seen chasing the Grannies of South Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire RK |

I've heard that they - Black Tigers - have that extra stiffness that the consumer demands when they want to clothespin a playing card to the forks of their bike and have it rattle through the spokes!
It's as if your bike is going three times faster than when you regularly pedal - and the curious/ASTONISHED looks you get! Well worth it! I have to say that if it were not for my Black Tiger deck, I would never have caught the eye (or ear, I was really moving on my two wheeler) of that special lady that's now, you guessed it, my wife! Sorry sheydon, the fact that I, or anyone else, could imagine many uses or persons that the Black Tigers would suit beautifully, really has nothing to do with the reasons why I don't like them. A.

I don't like them because all these kids who do endless flourishes to their webcam tend to use them! I think it is the kids doing the endless flourishes that you don't like.

I don't think it's very fair to ASSUME that anyone who uses a Black Tiger is a beginner who wants to be 'ultra kool'.
TRUE, a lot of newbies, associated with Ellusionist WILL have them. But that doesn't mean I can't use them. My fave. colour is black, heck, I wear black everyday! So what? I can't use these cos newbies use them on their webcams and do flourishes with them? Some people hate them and don't use them because they just don't want to be associated with newbies of Ellusionist by having these, well, all I can say is it really doesn't matter what deck you use, but what you do with it that counts. As to whether it looks suspect, I agree 100% and I prepared an explanation for the "Is that a trick deck?" question, but you know what? I never had to use it. No one asked, in fact they really liked the cards, so far. Maybe it's just me and my presentation. I love these cards and I've been doing very well with them. If you choose to hate it, ask yourself why, is it because of all the newbies who use it? Or is it because it really doesn't fit your style? I'm not a supporter of Ellusionist, but I know quality when I see it.

God these threads annoy me...
It's just a deck of cards!!! Surely the 'magic' should be from what you actually do with them, and your persona, rather than what the cards look like? I'm sure the spectators don't care a jot about the back design (ok, they maybe say they're 'cool'. Great), I'm sure they're more concerned with how the card changed in their hand, or the one they thought of was found mutilated in a nearby pumpkin (you get my point..). Use them, don't use them, go with what fits your style. But learn to do card magic first. Simon |

I'm not assuming anything about you! I was making a general point. I wouldn't worry about people putting the cards down... if they work for you, great. Each to their own. But the cards should really be irrelevant.

Dead_man,
As I stated in my earlier post, almost everyone associates the Tigers with the newbies of Ellusionist. Which is why they question your level in card magic. I may have only been in magic for 3 years or so, but long enough to know that it's the skills that make the cardman, not the colour of the cards.

I believe Martin Luther King, Jr. said it best:
"I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: 'We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all cards are created equal.' I have a dream that one day the newbie and the seasoned professional will be able to sit down together before a close-up mat of brotherhood. ... I have a dream that magicians will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their cards but by the content of their routine. I have a dream today." Or... maybe I'm paraphrasing a bit, but it's the thought that counts. HB |

I am just always extremely wary when someone puts the word cool into magic. Yes, endless nights alone with a deck of cards is cool. Buying Ray-Bans makes you cool, leather jacket, a Harley, and of course the black tiger deck.
It is the performance that can be cool, or you are a cool guy, or your stuff is just so unbelievable that it is cool. But no way can a deck of cards be cool! And what geeks we are for thinking so. But, if they do fit you and you buy them for your magic, not your ego, the chances are it will enhance your magic. If not, well, vice versa. This is from a point of view that any good enough deck for card magic is unknown in my country. |

Brad irritates me to a certain extent, but that's just presentation-wise. But I must admit, he has got skills.
Frankly, if I had started out with Ellusionist, I probably would have been an avid follower, their advertising is really stunning.

Why don't we all drop this conversation, rather this topic COMPLETEY and let it go. I don't know about you guys but seeing a new black tiger topic every other day is making me crazy. Just let the Colored deck fans alone.
Pure and Simple just like that.
