Next weekend, I have to travel to Nassau, Bahamas to play a show at the Wyndham Crystal Palace Casino. I will be in Nassau for three days, and was wondering if there are any magicians doing shows, hanging out, or , by some stroke of luck, an actual magic shop ????

When I was there 4 yrs ago, Edward Richardson was doing closeup in the restaurant table to table, talented guy, ended with bill in lemon. He was at the Marriott, which I think was the Crystal Palace at the time.

Joannie Spina was playing the showroom. Good show, should have heard more about her. A hardworking, nice person!

FOr the benefit of others who may view these posts, I did a little research and found out that Joanie is supposedly still doing the show, though the hotel is now calle dthe "Wyndham Hotel" Crystal Palace Casino, and is no longer the Marriott. I am hoping I will be able to catch her show this Friday night...

Anybody else know of anything magic happening in Nassau ?????

OK, here is the final update on the Bahamas.....

I returned last night from the Crystal Palace in Nassau. The trip down was tough, as most planes had been removed from Florida due to hurricane Katrina. After five (yes, 5 !) flight changes, and 12 hours at Tampa Intl. airport, my group (singing group The Four Tops) arrived in NAssau.

The Crystal Palace is under new ownership. It was formerly a Marriott, then a Wyndham resort. Now, even thought the sign still says Wyndham, it is being called the Cable Beach Resort. New owners.

Joannie Spina is no longer in the Cabaret show in the Rainforrest theater. The show the hotel presents was pathetic, consisting of a couple of local entertainers (and I use the word "entertainers" loosely !). The condition of the facility is sad. Rooms are run down, and the restaurants were not what one would expect from such an establishment. Renovation is planned for sometime in the near future, but I would warn those interested in a Bahamas vacation to stay away for this place for at least the next six months to a year, depending on how long the renovation takes.

Anybody know where Joannie is performing these days ?

Happy to be back on US soil.....

I spoke with jonie over the phone a few months back and she told me that she is no longer performing. She has basically retired and is exploring new avenues...... I hope she will return one day. She is still helping to develop acts though. But no longer performing. Infact if you check the magic auction you will see some of her illusions for sale......
