Hello everyone,
I performed my first official festival magic stroll this weekend, and I wanted first of all to thank all of those here at the Café that gave me tips and advise in the days just before. The day was a success! I had an attentive audience throughout the day, and things went very well.. Being that this was a test for me, I thought I would share what tricks worked the best and kept the crowd.. below is a list of the tricks that received the best reactions from adults as well as kids age 9 and up, for any of you out there that are also seeking into starting out performing on the street or at festivals.. 1. Anniversary Waltz 2. Invisible deck 3. Cody Fishers Turtle Coins 4. Dean Dills Matrix with backfire 5. NFW 6. David Stones 4 coins across to a glass 7. The WEB 8. Roths one coin routine ending with a Jumbo 9. Tissue eating and production of a Mouth coil 10. and believe it or not.. Biting a quarter in half... The Quarter thing is sooo old, but you would not believe the continuous reactions and requests for repeating it! Dont blow off the simple stuff.. anyway, those were the top 10 effects according to reaction, I performed for about 4-1/2 hours made a lot of tips, booked 4 birthday parties, and got my picture in the Sherman, Tx Herald Democrat Newspaper.. and over all had a great time doing so... Best wishes Tom Defrange

I had a really great time out there, and another point.. Most of these festival, city type events are starving for entertainment.. and are full of kids.. and although the tips are VERY small, you cannot beat the advertisement.. in my case, I wanted to get my name circulating around the area, and I am not yet confident enough to take a restaurant table hopping position to do so.
this type of advertisement is completely free, its fun, I made enough tips to replace the props that I used up (balloons, mouth coils, etc.) so it did not cost a dime. and best of all there is no pressure.. you are not being paid by the hour and you dont have to carry the weight if the infamous feeling of: "I hope I dont screw up and dissappoint the person paying for my services" As well as it gives you plenty of practice to make sure you knock em dead when you do land a paid gig... thanks for the congrats Enjoy the magic that magic can create! Tom -
Thanks for the report. I, too, will be "taking it to the street" soon and it's great to hear what's working for you. I am especially encouraged about the success of the "simple" stuff. SB
That's MISTER Swami Bill to you.

One more thing....
I tried to perform at a festival a few months ago and it was a flop... the difference in my Flop then and my success last weekend was a close up table.. I posted this today in another topic, but I will say it again here.. The table worked.. just a TV stand with a framed close-up pad on it.. it REALLY helped me draw a crowd.. before, I just strolled, and the only people that watched were the ones that I verbally invited to do so and no crowds gathered.. I highly recommend using a close-up table of some sort to help you stand out and help let the spectators know that there is something to see over here.. for me, it made a TON of difference.. you can read further if your interested in this topic http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......=6&6 Good luck Tom

Congratualtions Tom! Nicely Done!
And thanks for the update. I also agree that having a base of operations sets you apart from the passing crowd. Even if you dont work off of the table, it helps legitimize your purpose! I think a sign is also a good idea. As long as you have the table, a sign hanging down from it - only clarifies your purpose. Once again Tom, congratulations that you didnt give up after the first difficult time out. You adapted and succeeded. Bravo! BroDavid
