I'm a beginner trying to learn the shell game using S4S Golden Shells, their DVD, and Perfect Peas. I wonder if someone could help me with a few difficulties.
First of all, when I work on a plush close-up pad, the shell makes a distinct noise when sliding. When the pea comes out, this sound has a "hitch" in it. Maybe I am being too sensitive, but it seems like the, uh, marks could hear this. Secondly, I was wondering how deeply to pinch the pea. If the pea is far up between the fihgers the angles are better, but this position is harder to obtain without a visible pinching motion. Any thoughts on these issues will be appreciated. |

I wouldn't worry about the sound. If they can hear that, they may also hear the scraping sound of your skin on a coin when released from classic palm. May be they cringe when they hear you do a pinky count with more than one card...ouch;-)
Forget about it, really! You are probably right about the clipping position of the pea. But then again this hardly seems to be an issue. If you feel uncertain about how well it is hidden let your hands "drop" a little at the wrists when moving around. It would be useful to find a willing friend to help you get over your starting-anxiety. Let him/her give you clues how it looks and if you flash. Good luck with it!

You should being working up your spiel to cover any small sounds like that. The sound shouldn't be significant but you are, also, talking about a spot at which you may be wanting to ask a question or say something that demands thought from the mark. That thought will make many things go unseen and unheard even if the mark is trying to concentrate.

Birdi, I'm glad to hear that you care about the sound.
That shows you're responsible. But these gentlemen, (if I may call them that) are correct. Nothing to worry about. You'll be talking, moving 2 shells at the same time, etc.Ignore your guilt. Try to have a light touch and you'll notice that the sound difference will just go away. I promise that you will never notice it yourself.

Of course you're right, thanks for the advice. The effects I'm learning are so mystifying before I know the secret, but afterwards, it's hard to belive that a six-year-old would be fooled.
I guess my novice-ness must be apparent. |

Just keep at it. I know how you feel, I used to think the same way.
Don't worry. You will be taking lunch money off those six year olds without even trying... |
