Anybody could comment on this new-old wallet ????
Martin Breese writes about the Horwitz Wallet For those who don't know, the Horwitz Wallet enables the performer to perform a number of effects including the miracle card in wallet effect. What makes this wallet so different that all the changes and the tricky business all takes place when the SPECTATOR put the wallet in his own pocket. Everything is done openly and there is no palming involved. The wallet has inspired a number of effects many of which are in the book of instructions. There is a brilliant Just Chance with Bank Notes and Envelopes which are burnt. One of the best effects with the wallet baffled everyone when Basil first demonstrated it. A card is selected and signed and placed in the wallet and then put in a spectator's pocket. the spectator is then blindfolded The spectator is asked to hold his arm or hand over the pocket containing the wallet. The performer openly pickpockets the spectator and removes the signed card from the wallet and put the wallet back in the spectator's pocket. The crunch is that the spectator has no idea how he has been pickpocketed until the performer shows that he now has the signed card and the spectator discovers to his amazement that the wallet in his pocket is completely empty. Be warned that this great effect requires two Horwitz Wallets. Back in 1982 Basil Horwitz gave a special seminar on the wallet here at the IBM Convention which was held at my new home town of Brighton. The Seminar was unusual in that all participants had to be the owners of one of these wallets. At least fifty people turned up for what might well be described as the most exciting event of that IBM Convention. |

I've had mine since 1984 and still using it I have many other wallets but to me its by far the best no palm card to wallet there is.I'm fairly sure I paid around £60 back then so £45 now seems very reasonable.

...I remember paying around £35 way back in '84 or '85, from Ace Place, I think. I wouldn't go as far as saying it's the best 'no-palm' wallet - it doesn't work like, say, the Mullica or that ilk.
I'm tempted to get another, but for now £45 could go onto to 'better' things our there... Dr. Zordas |

BUY THIS
I don't spend £45 for no reason at all. Basically this is an exchange wallet. and the exchange takes plase in spectators pocket or his hands. Get this before martin runs out of his stock. :kewl: |

Martin already has the wallets in stock.
He is all over the place so he can get the instructions ready in time - Martin was kind enough to let me have one in advance. He is a gentleman through and through. :kewl: |

Quality is TOP CLASS - nice and sturdy even. Comes with VERY good set of instructions. Long ago Ted Lesley himself was looking for one of the routine with horwitz wallet. (search genii forum). Im sure Ted got what he was looking for. I promice you its worth your money - magicians who perform walk around will love this. Don't think it contains out of this world mechanics. NO SIR - its nice and simple but you'll love it (if you already don't know about it). Hope I've given enough info about this versatile item. anything more you want to know please ask martin. :kewl: |

Thanks for the reply!
I think it's made by Tony Curtis - I've just bought his 'Time Warp' effect, which, incidentally, I much prefer over 'Heirloom'. Look here... Dr. Zordas |

Top quality. Great prop. I love it – so much so that I added a similar feature to my Pimpernel Notecase. Now, it too can be handled by the spectator.

I got mine and it is fantastic quality and the ideas presented are truly amazing. Imagine a card change while the spectator HAS the wallet. Diabolical. Now I am working up some ideas to fit some of the work in progress in my repertoire.
Hurry before Hocus-Pocus runs out of them!

How's the reset for strolling? Also, is the final card revelation located in the slot opposite the magician's certificate or picture (depending upon which web site you check)?
Thanks. |

The Horowitz wallet is terrific. I bought two from Martin Breese in the mid-eighties to do Horwitz' "Psychic Pickpocket" routine, which should maybe more accurately be called, "Telekinetic Pickpocket". It's a tremendously strong stand-up routine where you show that you can steal the wallet from the spectator's inside coat pocket, remove a signed card, and put the wallet back. The assisting spectator can't feel a thing, and though the audience sees it happen, they can't believe it either, since you are standing behind the spectator and never go near the pocket. The routine is included in the accompanying instructions.
I just got two more wallets from Martin (yes, I really like the effect) and they are as good or better than the ones from two decades ago. I have a box full of wallets, but the only ones I actually use are the Barry Price Wallet (card in envelope) and the Basil Horwitz wallet. A great, useful prop. |

It is true that the Horowitz Wallet is very well made of top grade materials. Top grade and heavy/stiff leather is used with nice brass corners make up the body of the wallet. It has a heavy plastic window/sleeve/pocket for a photo or ID built inside.
However please note that the Horowitz Wallet is NOT like a “wallet” at all. That is IF you consider a wallet as something that you will carry your cash, ID, and credit cards in. It is more of an oversize ID card case or folder. It looks like something an FBI agent would use to flash his/her ID at a suspect just before the interrogation! In appearance you see a leather folder with a plastic ID window to one side and a shallow leather pocket on the other. The card (billet, bill, whatever) will be found in the leather pocket. In signed card to wallet routines (including the Psychic Pickpocket routine) the card is openly loaded as part of the routine (using a somewhat illogical ploy). The wallet uses an interesting principal. It requires no palming skill and no slights at all. It does require strong presentational skills and good audience management (but what prop doesn’t?). A similar but non-locking use of the principal is found in the Pimpernel Wallet (which is another discussion, try the search function). It can be used for many Himber routines (but it is NOT a Himber wallet). It can be used as a mentalists tool to switch one billet for another. It has many uses beyond the card to wallet themes given in the thin instruction book. I don't post reviews of an item that I haven't tested "under fire". I have used the early versions of this wallet back in the day and I have and am using the current version being marketed. Last night I used my Horowitz wallet for a burned bill routine. Simply put: Show a $100.00 bill in your wallet, give the wallet to a spectator and tell them to put it in a pocket. Tell the spectator that he/she will get the $100 if the next trick goes wrong. Borrow a $20.00 bill, fold it in half and tear out a section from the fold (I get most of the Presidents face from an old style bill) and give the center section to the spectator (a receipt). Now fold it in half a couple more times and light it on fire. Let it burn up with appropriate by play. Drop burning bill into ashtray as it is burning. Poke the burning bill and ashes with your forefinger (to make sure that it is all consumed). Look perplexed. Ask for another bill. Let the spectator take the wallet out of their pocket and open it. They take out the bill and unfold it. It is a $20.00 with a center section torn out. The torn section they hold matches! You complain that the trick just cost you $100.00! OK, simple minded, but it is performed exactly as described with no illogical bits, no palming, and the wallet and bill are in the spectator’s pocket BEFORE you burn the bill. Is the Horowitz Wallet good? Yes! It is a good prop especially if you can think well beyond the illogical card to wallet bit. However, I believe that if you are looking for a simple card to wallet routine and prop there are better avenues to explore. There is just so much more to this prop!

Harry...that was a wonderful post. Very informative, and it does show the broader potential of this wallet/ID case. Thank you.
