I just want to share a little idea that you can use with the "Magic Coloring Book":
When you have produced the colored pictures in the book, normally you snap your fingers, say a magic word, and then the pictures are blank again. I add a little something: before the show, I put a little bit of konfetti in a pocket of my trouser. When I have produced the colored pictures, my hand sneaks into the pocket and grabs a little bit of the konfetti. Then I snap the finger, say a magic word and shake the book a little bit, while I drop the konfetti...... I shake the colors out of the book! Then of course the pages must be blank.... Magixx

It sounds like a great idea, but I wouldn't want to make much of a mess (especially in someone's home). I might try it when I'm on an easily-sweepable stage, though.

Great idea! Just shake it over your table, then you don't have to worry about cleanup. Thanks for the idea.

What about using color paper streamers. You can attach them to the inside of the book. Then you can reach in and make it appear that you are literally pulling the colors one by one right out of the book. Because it is not confetti, the streamers do not make as much of a mess and can go right back into your table. You have better control over it. Plus it looks like the colors are being pulled from the book. Just an idea.

Cool!!
My colouring book is part of a three part routine starting with a production of silks - then blending them with the child into a giant sun burst silk. I then show the c. book and talk about how it lacks pictures and colours......... lots of audience participation here with fingers in the air helping to draw the pics. Then... the child rubs the blendo silk over the book at the end and the colours from the silk rub off onto the book pages- this gets a really good reaction. Adios! Magic Mike |

Great ideas and great shares here folks. It really does show how the trick is just a mere trick. But, it is the entertainer who makes it into a full routine that the audience can enjoy. It is also very refreshing to see a lot of new and creative thinking going on here.

I taped an envelope to the last page (inside the back cover of the coloring book) and then taped the second to last page almost all the way around (leaving the top un-taped) to the back cover as well.
Then I accordian folded a 15 foot silk streamer and put it in the envelope. When it's time to remove the color, I pull out the colorful streamer, putting it away in my table. No mess, yet sooooo colorful and ooooh and ahhhh producing! Lyndel |

Good ideas here! And yes, I forgot to mention that you should always ask for permission to use konfetti inside a house. And don´t use too much konfetti!

I have the rough workings of turning the coloring book into a new direction at least for me using the "see no see" and "magician in trouble" principle. If anyone is interested I can post what I have.

Funny this post started, driving home from my show yesterday I had this idea, they sell this stuff, think its simply called slime.........its basically slime.......it will stick to things but comes off easily.......it stretches etc. but stays together(kinda hard to explain!)
so after the kids throw there color you have this slime palmed and you can either secretly place it on your arm that is holding the book or just slap it on with the hand palming it making it look like something stung you etc. then you can peel this slime off "someone here has bad aim, please throw your colors at the book!" but the cool thing is when you peel it of your arm it looks runny and drippy, very cartoonish! well have not really tested this yet but will post more when I have tried it!
"Its a magic thing...........you wouldn't understand"

Does it come in various colors? You will also want to make sure that it does not stain anything. Also you will want to keep it in total control and not have any of it get near the kids as I could see that causing havoc of kids trying to reach out and grab it. Spounds like a neat idea that could be fun and hilarious for kids.

Macmagic, you know I was thinking exactly the same thing, but I didn't know what to do. I may have to try that.
My routine is as follows: I start by showing the book pages empty but I'm telling them about how this is my favorite coloring book and how I love the pictures in here. They tell me that there are no pictures but when I look at the book all the pictures are there. I start again but this time stop at a page that has my favorite picture on it. Again the kids say that their is no picture. This time when I look at it, I notice that there are no pictures. I tell them that the pictures have run off on me again. And since I cant see them any were we have to draw new pictures. I have all the kids draw a nice big smiley face in the air with the pointer finger and when they say the magic words I have new pictures on the pages. After that I go into how I'm not a very good drawer and so I need them to help. I have them yell out their favorite color and throw it to me. I catch them in my book. The see no see is obviously at the beggining. The magician in trouble I think is when you realize that your pictures have run off on you. Any and all comments are appreciated. Paul |

As part of a routine with coloring books I remove color using mouth coils. Less mess and of course the visual is great.

I start off with the coloring book showing the pictures without the color. Then I tell everyone that I am going to show them how magicians used to color in the book, but we don't anymore because it doesn't work. I then wave a color changing silk streamer at the coloring book and then the colors all disappear from the silk streamer. I then show the book and it is NOT colored in. Of course not, because that is the method which does not work anymore. Then I show them what we now use because it does work--crayons! I use the disappearing crayon box. I tell them that I wave my hand over the crayons and the colors disappear and jump into the coloring book. I wave my hand and of course they do NOT disappear. I don't notice this until all the kids are yelling. I do this once or more times with the usual byplay of magic words etc. Then I turn the crayons toward me and show frustration that the crayons have not disappeared. I turn the crayons back toward the kids, and I then address the audience to explain that this method is not working either. At this point, the kids notice that the crayons have vanished. When I realize this, I do a double-double take. Then I ask the kids "should we look at the coloring book to see if the pictures are colored in?" Of course they say "yesss". I look at the colored in pictures, but don't show the kids that the pictures are colored in. They yell that they want to see too. I then realize that they want to see too and I show them the pictures all colored in. I then tell them that I need to erase the colors so we can do this same trick for the next show we are doing this afternoon. I ask everyone to wave their hand around in a clockwise motion saying the magic word of the day. I then tell them to stop, I look at the book and the pages are blank! I show them the blank pages. Horrors! I urgently ask everyone to wave their hands again but in the opposite direction and to say the magic words of the day backwards. I then yell STOP, and show them the book and the uncolored pictures are back where we started. End of effect. It always gets applause from the kids and the parents

Does anyone know if there exists a ungaffed coloring book that can be switched with the gaffed coloring book? If it does exist, where can one purchase it?

You know you are a magician when you have boxes full of lecture notes you have never read, but still are excited about going out and buying more.
