As performers, performing certain effects is important, so here are some Interesting quotes I found on "Mentalism" censorship in some of the best magic sites around. Apply them accordingly....
The fact is that censorship always defeats its own purpose, for it creates, in the end, the kind of society that is incapable of exercising real discretion. ~Henry Steele Commager The only valid censorship of ideas is the right of people not to listen. ~Tommy Smothers Censorship reflects society's lack of confidence in itself. It is a hallmark of an authoritarian regime. ~Potter Stewart Think for yourselves and let others enjoy the privilege to do so, too. ~Voltaire I am thankful for all the complaining I hear about our government because it means we have freedom of speech. ~Nancie J. Carmody

I don't understand what "mentalism censorship" is. Are some mentalists censored?

Or does this mean that someone is censoring their own thoughts, not permitting you to read their minds? Jimtron and I want to know these things unless, of course, they're censored.

thanks, Jim |

There is censorship within our medium ... sometimes as it relates to mind-expanding experiences. Have you tried to read a thought that didn't exist? You can't, i'ts not there.
I like the quotes....

With censorship, there has to be someone doing the censoring, if I'm not mistaken. Alexandre, would you mind being more specific? Who is censoring what exactly?
thanks, Jim |

The quotes you posted have more to do with free thought than with mentalism. You can apply them towards mentalism, but when they were said, they did not have mentalism in mind.

I don't understand what he's talking about, either. But lets just keep calm, and not panic. We need to call Anabelle to come and translate for us. She'll know what to do.

From what I have read over the years, here in the U.S., "Censorship" is often a misunderstood and misapplied concept. Technically, only the government can censor anything. If a privately owned web site or newspaper doesn't want something in print, it is their perfect right not to allow it. I argued this point with my sociology professor years ago... and won. "Mentalism censorship" therefore sounds like dubious concept, even we did understand what it meant.

Why is it only censorship--technically speaking--when the government does it? Why wouldn't the term censorship apply when a media outlet blocks something? |

Jim, I have been censored from the media.
In fact banned from issuing press releases by Business Wire, the largest new outlet in the world. Why? I had a problem with Coke, Disney, and McDonalds. Best Wishes Jim |

What was/is your problem with those corporations, and what specifically was the reason given for banning you? |

Oh I truly was a nightmare.
I will post a link tomorrow to the content that started it all. You know the lawsuits against the fast food giants? Guess who started the fuss? I am pleased that three major corporations thought me enough of a threat to complain about me. Coke was going to sponsor my lecture for high schools untill they found out I was revealing how their advertising worked. Well now what I told them was going to happen has. Till tomorrow Jack |

Tell me they don't put their vending machines in schools to get kids hooked on their sugary, fattening, addictive beverage at a young age. They don't use persuasion and infulence techniques in their advertising, do they? Is it more sinister than that? |

"RLFrame:
Why is it only censorship--technically speaking--when the government does it? Why wouldn't the term censorship apply when a media outlet blocks something?" When a media outlet blocks something they call "material selection" or "editing." If I write a rambling diatribe and send it to a media outlet they have every right not to print it if they so choose for whatever reason. Maybe it is just boring, or impertinent, or does not fit with the theme of their publication from their point of view. If I write a book, a publisher, similarly, has every right to reject it for publication for whatever reason it chooses Neither of these is censorship. Censorship is when the government tells me I can't write or publish the rambling diatribe or does not allow the media outlet to print it, or outlaws the book's publication. I agree that people sometimes use the term 'censorship' when it comes to media outlets, and it sometimes used to make a point or over-exagerrate some point of view - usually that the big media outlets are being unfair, or are protecting their own self interest by denying people access to certain information. Nevertheless, it is just not an accurate use of the word. I have similarly seen people banned from message boards lamenting their treatment as a violation of their right to free speech. Once again, a privately owned and operated message board can ban anyone it wants to. When a government tells you that can't post something, then you MAY have a case of free speech violation. |

The news in general comes from outlets such as Buissness Wire.
I paid my cash for Press Release distibution and for it secured several hundered stories before I was banned. I secured a spot in USA Today becouse they did not ban me quick enough. I was banned becouse of my content. I was just one guy throwing stones at giants. Jim |
