My CSB set, made by Todd, uses a Walking Liberty silver half dollar, an African dime (copper coin with hole), and a Peruvian something-or-other that's a golden color.
Like the set Dan Watkins described a couple of posts above, it is very deceptive. Todd's set is also beautifully made and works like a charm. When I travel I take a cheaper set (not sure who made it); the Chinese coin looks a bit like a washer with Chinese characters, but I can always do the old "Made in the People's Replica of China" joke. I have an old Johnson set using a half dollar, a Sterling set using a half dollar, a Lassen set using a Morgan silver dollar, a Lassen set using a Franklin half dollar, and two Schoolcraft sets using quarters. Can you tell that I like the effect? Although I don't use any of them professionally (I used to use the Sterling set professionally 20 years ago), I'd love to develop a routine using the quarter set because I'm interested in performing the the effect using a "borrowed" quarter. The only problem is that then I wouldn't be able to use the Mexican Centavo and Chinese coin gags which I absolutely love.

I have enjoyed the Schoolcraft set I had made earlier this year and received quite a few compliments from other magicians who saw the set.
I had mine made in the Walking Liberty, Peruvian Coin and East African Penny. Excellent work and extremely fast turnaround time. |

Back to the routines...
Okay, time for me to get the Cody Fisher CSB routine. Is the one refered to several times above the Real World CSB on Cody's Unforgettable Coin Magic DVD? I have a foggy memory that he had a couple versions out, perhaps the "best" one only marketed with the coins? Thanks, Doug |

Cody Fisher's CSB routine is a very strong and well thought out routine. I would go with either this routine or Dan Watkin's version on his recent DVD (CSB Asssault). If you use the 2 Copper/1 Silver gaff I'd say learn Kurtz' Trio in Three routine. These 3 routines are the strongest and most direct out there. (Bannon has a routine in Smoke & Mirrors, but there's some pocket work).
Now get the gaffs and start practicing. |

Well I really don't care if I did have to go to the pocket. I just saw Dans routine and it is very sweet, I Just need to know which one to go with Jamie's or the Cody set. Pete I just saw your chips and they look really sweet I just need to get the dough to get in your standards. LOL I'm still trying to save up for your Cap in bottle. I do wish there was a demo. I know what would happen and everything. Sometimes you just need to see a visual. But with time my friend.

Ah, which coin set . . . apples and oranges.
Regarding the pocket - you will care if you start performing this for real people. Good luck. |

Well see that's the thing with my old Johnson set. I use to do Doc Easons routine. Then I saw Dans and actually read it a while ago.But I have only heard and read about Cody's routine. But then again that was when I wasnt really into coin magic but the tides have turned and that's pretty much all I do now a days. And since being in the military out in Iceland I don't get a lot of chances to go to lectures or round tables to talk to any others about these issues, this is basically my only outlet. I know there are millions of routines outthere but I havent seen them. So I want to get my hands on a really nice set (Jamie's from what it seems) And then learn a couple other routines but I think I read that Cody's envolves a gimmicked purse. So I'm trying to get in a lot of information before I make a decision.

Paisa, Cody created the gaffed coin purse as an extra benefit for those who wanted it. He to this day doesn't use it himself, nor do I. I use a regular Onosaka coin purse with no gaff and it works fine. |

What about CopSilBrass by Geoff Latta.
only requires a C/S and I think it's great. However, I've only performed it for myself. I've not tested it on a real audience.

If you're considering a routine, look at Jim Lewis's "Foreign Exchange," which is on his Million Dollar Mysteries video. No pocket usage, and very visual open changes.

I recently purchased a Johnsons C/S/B. Where can I find the "advanced" routines you all have referenced above? I can do the "standard" routine that came in the instructions, but I'd prefer to transpose between hands and not always to the pocket (seems a little too convenient, if you know what I mean). If anyone has an original routine they wouldn't mind sharing, please e-mail me.
P.S. I just do magic for family and friends, so you professionals don't have to worry that I'll be "borrowing" your routine for my act.
