What was your first coin trick?
What would you tell someone else to start with? |

Mine was a Scotch and Soda. I would start with learning the fundamental sleights of coin magic before doing a "trick".
I would tell someone else to start with the Ammar DVD, Roth Videos, or David Stone videos, practice what they show and learn some routines there. I would also tell them to have Bobo's Modern Coin Magic book. |

I learned the "Matrix" from the owner of The Magic Shop.

Mine was the Scotch and Soda also. I loved it for a while, and then I got tired of it and bought Bobo's. That was the best magic book I've ever bought.

I got the dime and penny. I still love that trick and do it at the bar all the time. I push a dime through a girlie's hand under the cover of a penny! yay!

I started with David Roth Videos, and moved on into the David Stone videos later,
the first coin trick I performed was one from David Roth where you have the coin in your hand, heel clip it, and steal it with a thumb palm while rotating the wrist and gesturing towards your sleeve.. I dont remember the name of it, it has been forever since I have watched any of the Roth videos. but I remember the sleight of hand involved with this effect took the least amount of practice.. compared to tricks using the classic palm, finger palm, downs palm, etc. I remember how pulling off that single coin trick the first time gave me sooo much confidence and ultimately got me hooked on Coins.. Now that I think about it, Dime and Penny was my first, THEN Scotch and Soda. I got S&S because I liked Dime and Penny so much.

My first coin trick was Jiffy Coin Trick! And I still use it to this day!!! Only one person has ever guessed correctly at how it's done & I even talked him out of that idea, so that's one trick I've got that is still batting 1000!!! Yeah, it's dummy proof, but the reactions are great.

Mine was the one with a coin covered by a
hankerchief. Have people check to see if it is still there. The last person helps it disapear. I believe it was taught on a worlds greatest magic show. I learned it MANY years ago. Harris

Ditto on Scotch & Soda. Since it's easier to visual a trick as a beginner, the Rubinstein encyclopedia (4 volumes), Roth (20), Ammar (1--probably the cheapest way to start) PLUS the accompanying Bobo's book is the very basic way to get into coin magic.
Speaking of Scotch & Soda, I'll probably use that later this afternoon for a magical halloween gig (haven't used it in a while for obvious reasons).... |
