Koz: Really sorry about the Katrina thing. So much damage. So many broken hearts. I can't imagine. Charley was bad in my area last year, but Katrina... Man-o-man. I've sent my money and will continue to do so, but it seems like there's so much to do. I'm feeling kind of helpless on my end and would love to wave a magic wand over this one.

But it's time to tribe up and get tough. I know you're going to lose a season or two in New Orleans, so that's going to mean a relocation for a while. Mallory Square in Key West is always a good pitch and could use your skills. Gazzo did well there for a long time. Expensive to live there though. I heard of a guy working the cruise ship docks in Los Angeles, CA. I didn't get there to see him, but I understand he was doing well.

Frank: I've been to Sacramento a lot. I didn't know that "Old Sacramento" had a pitch, but if it does, it would be a great spot. Lots of traffic and tourists.

In any case koz, I wish you all the luck in the world. Looking forward to the "New" New Orleans. It will be like the Phoenix, a sad loss, but an exciting change. How ever you perceive it, God Bless you and all your brothers down there.

Ooops... You were asking about San Diego. I think there is a pitch at the, (I think this is the name), Seaport Village. Maybe someone with some local knowledge will jump in here, but you can give that a little research. I've been there some years ago and it was a bustling place.

I'll tell ya about Sacramento. First is you need to be licensed, very important. Second there is a solid pitch at Old Sacramento and they seem friendly to street performers, if properly licensed, and the weather is mild during the Summer. There is tourist trade throughout the year, don't know the tourist view of street performers, but it could be good. Lots of folks at night, no performers.

Right now you'll find jugglers and puppeteers working the area but no magicians that I or my Sacramento magic cohort knows of. Living in Sac is relatively inexpensive because it is outside the bay area yet you can scoot over to SF pretty easily and work there if there is a reason or desire to do so, Pier 39 being a top pitch if you can get a spot. Old Sacramento has a web site and you can contact the administrators there. A good contact in Sac is Steve Johnson, his shop right outside Sac is called Grand Illusions, great guy, great shop.

The bad side. Sacramento is just there....it is a typical boring valley city here in California so no glitter, no glam, but it is exciting compared to where Frank lives. It does rain but we really don't get a whole lot of rain compared to most of the country and by our standards is may be cold, like high 50's, into the 60's, but that is actually pretty nice compared to most of the states. Sacramento is where excitement goes to die. Of course that means you could be the hottest ticket in town.

Koz, I lived there for 12 years, and always thought that the "Old Sac" area was a wasteland needing some entertainment. It is a quaint area, wooden boardwalks, railroad museum, good restaurants. You wouldn't have to worry about anyone stealing your pitch, for you'd be the only one working it.

The best nights to perform would be the nights that the Rivercats (baseball) play. Daytime seems pretty steady, though not wall to wall tourists. The weather is mild, though hot during the day right now. No guarantees, but certainly possibilities galore. If you need more info, give me a shout via e-mail (still got it?)

Not bad. Sometimes it rains. Summers are hot.
I work at the Rivercats games and the crowds are quite good.
I am well received by all types at the games. It's basically right accross the street
from Old Sac.

I've thought about setting up at Old Sac just for fun but have not
discovered who to contact about it.

p.s. Putting the final touches on two more "Kozmo" servantes by the way.

The weather in Winter is mild relative to places that get snow and all that horrible stuff. Day times in the fifties and sixties, night maybe forties. Sac, being a h*ll hole, is interesting because it is a bit over an hour to San Francisco, maybe 90 minutes, and the same in the other direction will have you up to your ears in snow, another hour and you are at Tahoe. This whole region, from Sac West then South, is moderate in the Winter.

Hey Ted, I have been thinking about you a lot, and what you were going to do for the winter season, now that N.O. is going to be a problem for about the next year at least... Probably longer..

I just got back form a relief trip to the Gulf are, took a van load of supplies to Mississippi, and at one point we were only 40 miles form N.O. Man it was mess down there, and I wasn't even seeing the places that were totally under water.

Anyway, I hope you find a good pitch elsewhere. Good luck to you.

I've not been there in years Ted. I know they have some areas that are major draws for tourist and the weather is fantastic in the Winter, some Rain (for those not hip to California we have two seasons for the most part, dry and rainy, the rainy is Nov. through April, and we don't get very much rain). Brad Burt may still be in that area and can tell you about any pitches.

Oh yea, on the San Diego thing... You can contact J.C. Wagner. He's down there. I'm sure he's up on what's happening. He's been there for tons of years. If you need his number, give me a PM and I'll get it to you.

San Diego has the best weather in the country.
Moderate all year long. Not humid, doesn't rain, doesn't snow.

I went to bootcamp in San Diego in the Winter ...believe me, it rains. The weather there is beautiful though and as for Sac I guess weather is relative.

I moved to California from Georgia/Florida and I find it cold here, my wife is from Boston and thinks it is warm in the Winter. I've emailed the Old Sac management to ask about permits etc.

Ted, Old Sac is sending me a pamplet on street performing in that area. Email your mailing address and I'll get it off to you as soon as I see it.
