I'm trying to figure out what year my copy of Modern Magic was published. It's an oldy, and has no page with a date. I hear there are a couple editions that are undated. Bah. Anyway, it has a red cover with what looks to be some gold design and black images on the cover.
If you know when the undated editions were published please let me know, or if you need more info about the copy I have, feel free to PM me. This has been bugging me for a year |

You might check with H&R Magic books in Texas. They might be able to help you. Also there are some texts about collectible books that might have information.
Good luck, Jordan |

There is a book by Sawyer which identifies each of the editions.

Michael Canick's Price Guide to Magic books, though a bit dated, should be helpful to you. Do you have a photo of your edition?

Have you checked all the pages, or have you put the book under an ultraviolet light?
I'm curious as to what the black images are - very Joycean. A.

I just got off the phone with my local dealer, a collector of rare and expensive books. He has something to show me that may be an answer to your quiery!
Be patient, okay! A.

I guess if you've waited a year a few more days won't hurt, will it?

Alewishus,
Please let us know what you find out as soon as possible. I love detective work like this. This is like Vernon tracking down Allan Kennedy. |

Asper,
Unlike Vernon I won't try to rip off anyone (Kennedy) by showing them a double lift and passing it off as a new type of second deal, hahaha! Really though, I almost soiled myself when I saw your post, as I was thinking exactly the same thing! My bus pass is on the night stand, and the alarm is set for eight am - library hours 10am-6pm. Can't wait till tomorrow! A.

Thanks guys.
Alewishus, I extend my thanks for your truly altruistic endeavor. I wish I could give you more. Unfortunately, I find myslef saving up for another magic purchase. Anyway, here's a link from my post in 2003 looking for the same thing. I describe the book a little better here: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......forum=19 Thanks for being a helper, Mr. Helpy Helpingtons. |

Don't be so quick to thank me.
I spent the entire day at the library and no leads! I would spend more time with this but I'll soon be out of the country. A.

You'll find the coolest magic in Alaska. Not the hottest. But there are some underground guys that I know in Fairbanks and in Kodiak.
I'll pm you with the info. These guys are underground and I can't just put their names on the forum like that. |

Underground magicians frighten me!
If I don't like their stuff, I feel like I'm not hep, you know? Or, maybe they're putting me on like Vernon used to do... That's it - the trip is cancelled. I think I'll ask my mom if it's alright to spend the weekend in her basement until I feel right again. Maybe longer than a weekend - I'll check how many sick days I have. Does anyone know if there's a curse that follows Modern Magic? *** that book! A.

I think I'll do like tom Cruise and go for a walk - that should help the paranoia that's settling in...
