I saw him at lecture in Queens, NY in 1995. Last I heard, he was pretty ill with mono. Does anyone know his address or if he still has a website?

My understanding is that he is no longer allowed to use a computer with an internet connection or live within 2000 yrds of a school zone as a condition of his parole.

Whoops, I misread your post. I saw "Magician Carlos JENKINS".

I don't know Carlos Jenson and I humbly apologize if I impuned his reputation.

He's fine. He doesn't have a website. He is no longer a professional magician. He still does tricks, but he's trying to stay out of the magic scene as he was a bit burnt out with it all.

He's back to teaching math at Cardoza HS in Corona.

Who is Carlos Jenkins? And can they really stop you from using the internet?

Yes, they can. They can issue a court order to prevent you. If they catch you, back in jail.

Famouse hacker, Mitch Kapor was ordered not to use a computer for a certain amount of time after he was released from jail.

It's like house arrest. Certain drunk drivers are not allowed to drink or drive for a certain amount of time while on probation. And they will show up for random alcohol tests.

Carlos Jenkins was one of the best close-up workers of the late 80s in the underground scene in upstate new york.

Yeah but when you drink and drive you are putting other people at risk. I'm not sure how having an internet connection would put other people at risk. Now, certain activites on the 'net should be illegeal (those involving under age persons) but stopping a person from having a 'net connection doesn't seem right.

When you get a DWI and have your license suspended, they are keeping you from driving a car. Just because drinking and driving is illegal, it doesn't mean that every time you get in a car, you will be drunk, right? But they still stop you from driving altogether, it's the law.

Same with the internet.
If you commit crimes on the internet, and they take away your connection, they are stopping you from going online. Just because you commited an online crime, doesn't mean you will commit one every time you log on, right? But they can still take your connection away altogether, it's the law.

And there are many crimes that you can do on the internet (and not all have to do with children), fraud, hacking, identity theft are serious crimes and taking away an internet connection seems like the right thing to do, in addition to jail time, of course.

I think it's a just punishment.
