I need to modify my tipper monkey. I have used this for several years with great success. I just started yet another restaurant and they HATE the sound the monkey makes. Does anyone know of a way to modify the sound? I can find other toys that make more pleasant noises and remove the sound box, has anyone at all tried this? I hate to stop using him, he has been so popular at my other locations.
Thanks, Christopher |

Okay, I give up. What's a Tipper Monkey? Someone who tips without being asked?

I think it's that monkey with the chimes. I've seen them remote controled and it is like arunning gag, or an assistant that just harrasses you when your mess up (intentionally). It can be really funny.

The tipper monkey is one of the best accessories I have ever purchased. You can see them at hocus-pocus. Does anyone have a solution?

Bruce Kalver makes the Tipper the Monkey ( https://manatee.site-secure.net/tophatpr......838.html ) modifying the standard toy slightly. Top Hat Productions ( http://www.tophatprod.com ) Bruce's business makes these for Hocus-Pocus.

Chirstopher which sound are you referring to? The cymbals or his "screeching"?
Personally, I only have him clash the cymbals. I found the other seems to scare some small kids so I don't bother with it. If the cymbals is the problem, you can bend his arms so the don't make much contact or put some felt on them to muffle the sound... Tipper is very popular in my restaurant too. Great accesory for sure. Mark |

The Screeching sound is the problem, it is actually very annoying.

I found it annoying also...I have also found it doesn't diminish the entertainment to only use the cymbals. I have him communicate by signalling yes or no (1 or 2 claps) for converstaions...i have him clap the age of a child at their command...signify a card by claping when I say the right suit and value, listing them off. I don't know what routines you do with your Tipper but I honestly don't think he will be any less popular if he doesn't screech. Let me know how it goes for ya...
All The Best, Mark P.S. I don't know if you have one of the earlier made ones or not..but mine came with a toes switch to use for the screeching so I just don't use it. Yours may be different. |

In Bruce's the Screeching , clapping, etc. are under control separately so there is no need for the screeching to be used.

I found out how to disable the screech. It took a bit of work, but it is now solved for the older models. Tipper was much more popular tonight at my restaurants.

Glad to hear the problem solved Christopher!
Paleo magi: How do I lug him around? I also do balloons and my protable standing pvc pump made by Filbert has a ledge/inflated balloon holder all the way around it about half way down...I simply attach Tipper with a velcro seat belt. On this I also carry my clip on restaurant table. You might ask Christopher how he carries his...but I don't think it would be much of a problem to just carry him and sit him on the edge of the table..he is a great icebreaker/conversation starter. |

I have seen ads for this, and seen it discussed, but I never really understaood how this is supposed to get you tips. And at the (IMO) extremely high asking price, I have been hesitant to pursue it without further information.
Exactly what is it supposed to do? Clap and screech when someone sticks a tip in the jar, is that it? If not, please explain. |

That is only for starters...and, btw, people find that very charming....And I have had parents give each of there kids dollars to they can "feed the monkey" and see him clap. I have a wire basket attached between his legs where they can place a tip.
Tipper's actions are under your control at all times...so you control when and how many times he claps....at first people think his is just one of those movement activated things that when you get near it...it is activated..not true! Tipper's can do simple mindreading tricks or divinations.. by signalling answers by clapping. only limited by your imagination. Depending on your venue, he will pay for himself in a very short time. But, having said that..my advise to you is..dont get it..lol. |

I had not heard of this before - I checked out the link and I think this is a great idea for street acts. I must say, however, that this does not seem appropriate for restaurants. The ad says to take it table to table. If this thing is even half as annoying as it appears, that seems like a really bad idea.

It is annoying in excess, but used in moderation the crowd really enjoys him / her.
I've never used him in restaurants, but in my kid shows he was a hit. also, what did you do to getting to stop screeching? oliver |

I had him paid for the first night at my restaurant. It has been in my walk around act ever since. In fact, I even used it in a competition act that won a best of show award.

Hmmmm. Okay, I guess. Although I find it hard to believe you can pull in over $300 a night in tips alone at a restaurant. Anyone else have this kind of succcess?
