Received 1000 of the Custom Million Dollar Bills (www.photobucks.com) with my ugly mug in the middle last week. I figured as long as I was vain enough to do that (Hey, I paid for em') I went ahead with the telephone number/address too!
Yea, I know it's a shameless promotion idea, BUT......... Here's why I got em', I just didn't know if it was going to work or not. I fold a bunch into eighths, stashed em' into my pocket along with my trusty TT, and hit the places where people are. Using my dollar bill I perform the switch with or w/o the TT depending on my whim, here's the beauty of it. #1 You don't have to worry about the changeback cause you want them to have your new "Calling Card". #2 They tell their friends about it, and they want to see it with "THEIR DOLLAR BILL". #3 See #1 No kiddng, it is looking like the best money I have ever spent/made on promotion. Nobody wants their money back (Must be the picture on the bill). Just thought I would share, and yes the picture on the bill is the same as the Avatar, so I leave myself wide open for ridicule! Comments???? (be nice, now)

Wow, very good idea. Do you offer their money back, or do you just assume they accept the ending as is? I'd be very interested to know what they think about htis. but still a great idea.

Rtclark:
No, I do not offer their money back if THEY ask me to perform it specifically. They are happy with the million dollar bill novelty (and I am happy to give it to them). Kind of defeats the purpose of the magic if their bill re-appears along with my bill . I would of course magically produce/return their dollar if asked. So far no one has even mentioned it! UPDATE: Several folks already have mentioned my bills, seems they are are fooling around with the million dollar bill, and are asked where they got it! Looks like people are keeping them in their wallets/purses rather than the usual trashing of a business card. Looks like a good way to "spread the news"! So far so good! Dano

Dano,
I do the $1 to $1 million bill switch as well and it plays great. I've never had anybody ask for their $1 back but I have also intentionally worked into the presentation a warning that "if the trick works" they'll never see their bill again. Clay |

The most "logical" premise for a bill switch that I've seen was performed by Scotty York (I don't know if he originated the premise, though). The magician borrows a $10 bill, folds it and then unfolds it slowly revealing that it has turned into a $5 bill, continues unfolding the bill and tells the spectator that there's nothing to worry about because this is just a magical way to make change as he continues to unfold revealing two $5 bills. I also like Klause's premise of demonstrating the first trick he ever learned where the bill is folded and supposedly turns upside down.
I like the give-away advertisement aspect of this, but I'm wondering if you have a particular premise other than "look at this"--I'm not commenting on that type of approach with this effect, I'm just wondering. |

Actually, I comment on interest rates being so low that I have had to resort to an alternative method other than the bank. Of course the specy asks what that might be and I am off and running with or without their dollar bill.
When approached by someone who has had a friend show them their/my million dollar bill it is usually "Can you do it with my dollar?".

Dano, great idea! Can you tell me what kind of paper does the Million Dollar bill uses? Is it smooth and can be folded easily like Tyvek paper? Thanks.

Thanks people, I am having a ball with it so far!
evolve629: It is kinda like Tyvec, maybe a wee bit thicker. I had them send me a sample prior to placing my order and it worked out fine. I have had several phony bills prior but never considered ordering in quantity bacause of the "copy paper" feel to them. Of course it is not the real thing, but is much better than before! I feel it is probably as good as your gonna get without having the secret service pay you a visit in the night.

Here's a tip to make your Million Dollar bills look even more real. Fold the bill in half and roll the folded edge tightly between your fingers, moving the fold to the end of the bill. Reverse the process and roll the fold to the other end. You can also crumple it up a bit and flatten it. This wears the paper and gives it the feel of real currency.

Interesting that the $1,000,000 bills have reached the Café.
I just took our latest DVD project to the replicators. It features Fred Berthelot's instantaneous bill switch called Changeabil. Included with the DVD is a sample of the $1,000,000 bill. It's probably the best give a way to promote your shows that money can buy. Fred's method is ultra clean. He goes into great detail teaching the effect and many other applications. No gaff is required so you're always prepared. Changeabil is a stand alone effect. It's uses are virtually unlimited. It's a great way to change a spectators bill into the million and a perfect compliment to routines such as 3D Cash or any multiple bill change routine. It's the perfect out when the spectator asks you to change his bill into a hundred. You go a step farther and change it into a million. Changeabil was shared with Cris Angel for use in his Mindbenders TV series. Should be available worldwide through the Murphy's Magic dealer network around Oct. 15. |

My understanding is that Murphy will only sell to me if I happen to be a dealer. Correct?

Murphy's is a wholesaler, so yes, you have to be a dealer. Most dealers carry Murphy's products so when Bob says available worldwide through the Murphy's Magic dealer network, that pretty much means available in all magic shops.

Is this million dollar bill printed on both sides or just the front?

Both sides, go to photobucks.com to see 'em.
