I just finsihed viewing the DVD that L&L Publishing included with the current Genii magazine. On this DVD, Michael Finney does a comedy mentalism bit called "No" (which is a self explanatory gag and "1-2-3-4" which is done with the numbers 1 through four and the word carrot. If anyone has seen it, they'll know what I'm referring to. My question is not about this trick, but about trick/effects that are similar to this. Where can I find some effects that are similar in nature to 1-2-3-4? I've ordered Michaels DVD set, so I'll get the poop on 1-2-3-4. I had the pleasure of meeting him and performing with him at Houdini Days 2003 in Appleton, WI. Thanks in advance for everyones help.

Is Michael Finney's 1-2-3-4 trick on any of L&L's three "Greatest Collection of Magical Performances Ever Assembled" DVDs?
Thanks for the info. Mike

(I'm assuming that the 1-2-3-4 trick is a separate manuscript and/or a separately sold trick or that magicmind is offering to sell the complete manuscript/video/effect of which 1-2-3-4 might be a part.) Is the 1-2-3-4 one of many items within a manuscript or video and, as such, cannot be "broken out" and sold separately because of copyright restrictions? I know nothing at all about the 1-2-3-4 effect other than what I have read here on this thread. Hence my original question (in a prior post) and my follow-up comments herein. This discussion has definitely piqued my curiosity and interest in the 1-2-3-4 effect and I'd like to learn more about it. Thanks for the clarification and any additional information. Mike

Michael has some great routines, and I have found him wonderfully approachable in the past.

Mike,
The 1-2-3-4 trick is on one of Finney's dvds produced by L&L, not a seperate manuscript as such from Finney. That said, this bit of business is not new to Finney. His lines and treatment of the effect ARE his, but the effect itself is quite a bit older than the dvd and has been published before as posted earlier.

I would suggest getting volume 2 & 3 wally. This way you get to see how Finney performs. Also, there is a very good motivational speech at the end of volume 2 that is worth the entire set in my opinion.

Hi,
I just tested the 1-2-3-4 "trick" tonight with my wife and it didn't work. I should say that she's always been different from others. This might have been the reason why I married her.
May all your days be magical

OK, here is one for you older guys. Docc Hillford has a version of the 1234 trick where you never miss. I use it and it works well.
It is on some old Flora tape. It is in a section where he talks about doing the River Walk in San Antonio and says he only used two things...the 1234 and his paper rose. Problem is, I don't remember which tape...anyone? |

Docc's is also in Wonder Words and in PS2. And you're right MOTA, there is no way to miss. When I first started performing mentalism this was a great opener for me for just that reason.
