Does anyone have this?
What exactly can you do with this gimmick? There are very few details about this. Any input is appreciated. Thanks Graydon |

Hi Graydon,
It is similar to a Sanada gimmick but with a magnet on it. Nick does some amazing things with it. Thanks,
Thank you,

yes, I have Enigma. I love it IMO.
You can go to http://www.magicsmith.com and look up for a description of what it does.

I bought the “Enigma” gimmick from Hank Lee when it was first introduced. I loved the impromptu chop cup routine with a clear (yes clear) glass. In fact that routine was the big selling point for the gimmick when it was first introduced on the market. Well years have passed and I still do the routine, I just don’t use the gimmick! My little rare earth magnet fell off it and I simply put it under a band aid on the appropriate finger. IN fact, using this version of the gimmick and the proper coins (the new Euro coins do nicely), a very easy and sleight-less matrix routine can be worked.
It is a good idea, well made and the routines provided really get thinking about what you could do with this little gem.

I had asked about this on another board sometime back, Mr. Kevin James emailed me & told me he thought it was fantastic.
Perhaps I should get one? |

In addition to the uses already mentioned, you can use it, instead of the supplied gimmick, for the Cap in Bottle effect that Daryl was marketing a while ago. -Marty |

Hmmmmmmm, sounds interesting. I have my own ideas about that effect, this suggestion just might be the trick(so to speak).

Hi all,
I would like to confirm about this "Enigma" by Nicholas Night. Is it a finger ring with a magnet on it or else? because if I was not wrong I saw the advertisement show ENIGMA gimmick is a finger ring with magnet on it. What possible effect when we use it (beside chop cup)? Hengky |

Hengky,
No - it is not a finger ring. It is more in the nature of a prosthetic device. Very clever, and could work miracles in the right hands. And it seems to me that Harry's version (see his earlier post) is even cleverer and easier to handle (Thanks to him for sharing it with us !). Cheers, Pradip |

I ordered Enigma when it came out.Iused it for the trick where the dollar bill penetrates the bottom of the glass while it is sitting on the spectator's hand. Its a good effect but i use Eliholm gimmick now in place of the Enigma gimmick but I sill use the Enigma routine.

Pradip,
Does the penetration of dollar bill through the glass really-really VISUAL? Any bad angles? because I have a plan to do this trick for TV LIVE. Do you think is it good for TV Live? Hengky |

The idea of concealing a magnet under a band-aid goes back at least as far as a Ken Allen Coin Vanish, although in his routine the band-aid was not on a finger. And it probably wasn't new back then. (30+ years ago.)
Thanks to Harry Murphy for sharing this great concept. Wish I could remember what the Ken Allen effect was called, because it was one of the cleanest coin vanishes I've ever seen. Anyone remember? Dennis Loomis http://www.dennisloomis.com/dai.html

The Ken Allen Trick is Called "Scoop", I still have mine. It did not come with a strong magnet like we have today for other tricks.
That is probably what lead to Raven coin vanish, as I devised the same idea back then. Wish I would have had the 'cents' (sense) to market it. I believe the newer ring idea is better way to go. Of course this is from the Emerson and West magnet ring idea. As been stated elsewhere, there are not many if any new ideas. |

To wmhegbli,
Thanks for coming up with the name: Scoop. It took a bit of practice to do smoothly, but was an incredibly clean coin vanish. The magnet was probably the best that was available back then. Alnico, I suspect. Today the magnet could be stronger and your hand movements would not have to be quite as precise. For those of you who do not remember "Scoop"... a nickle is placed on your palm up left hand. The left hand stays open and motionless as the right hand makes a magic pass over it. The coin disappears. Both hands are shown front and back with fingers spread wide open. No sign of the coin. You can do this in shirt sleeves... if they are long sleeve.
