If you were to make a money or bill production act, what would be the props you would make for this?
I also have the flowers to blooming money production where you pluck several roses and make it vanish using the blendo bag, then money blooms from the rose bush. Let's say you produce several bills from your barehands, then you place it in a bucket, then you (please continue . . . . . . . .)

Lou,
First, I would probably start with coins and then move to bills. I think the bills would help build towards a climax. So I would start with a miser dream type routine, Use silver coins to start and then change to gold at the finish. I would take one gold coin and put into my hand where it would change to a glitter or mylar coil. Maybe you could take the mylar coil (gold colored) scoop it up and the glitter come out of it. It is sprinkle over the bush and coins bloom out again. Looks like a money tree. Now start producing bills a la split fans. There was an act by Larry Nudleman years ago that did this and there was a manscript. As the pace builds, you end up with card fountain with stage bills coming out (your contact information on them). You could do a card stab routine with a marked bill maybe here. The bills could be put onto a dove tray or the Harbin box with the ribbon and fill with other bills. Other ideas..Jumbo silk with money on it unfurls from the wings. Enough brainstorming for one night. Richard PS Any luck with your cell phone project?

PS Any luck with your cell phone project? Hi Richard, Right now I am resizing the last two smaller boxes of my nest of boxes set. I will make the tray with a load chamber to one side so I can place the second to the last box on the center and the last box on its side. Thanks for your notes. Lou

The Bruce Elliot book Magic as a Hobby has Kolmas bill production routine. It might be what you are looking for but involves sleights similair to card manipulation. It also involves spring bills and a production cone.

I saw a lecture last year that showed a great bill production with real ungimiced bills. I can't remember who it was but I believe he writes an article for linking ring mag. Maybe someone else will know. I know Michael Baker knows but I don't know what his sign in name is on here.

In my act I used to produce a hole lot of bills from the air
you can accomplish this very simply.... take a deck of Million Cards-Magicans Cards and glue paper bills (a copy of a bill ) to the fronts of them now you can backpalm them and do split fans if you like to but I would really recommend starting with coins and then moving to bills and maybe using jumbo coins as closer greets |

I was actually thinking about this the other day. A few things I was thinking was start off with a Misers Dream routine like Richard said then do some Card Manipulation with bills and end with a Credit Card Castle (hocus-pocus.com).
Another thing is I was going to try is to routine it to money by Pink Floyd, especially because it has the sound of money at the beginning of it. Just a few things I thought, David |

You could also do it to "money makes the world go routine" or " If I were a rich man"

Another song I always wanted to use for a comical type of money and magic routine was Bare naked Ladies song "If I had a Million Dollars". It is just a fun song. But, as Richard points out, there are so many songs and music out there that can really inspire your creative juices. So open up your eyes and ears to receiving them.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Torkova do a money routine before?

Yes and he still does and is very successful with it. It is mainly a coin manipulation act with a coin ladder and is presented in a fun type of character the audience can relate to. Bob Torkova is a great guy and is very willing to share information with anyone. I had the real pleasure of sharing a lunch with him when we worked the same convention and I learned a great deal from him.

The year Torkova won the SAM in Boston, his music did not work. He did the act with us all humming. Later in the show, he reset and did the act with the music. I also worked with him at Abbott's a few years ago. It is a great act done in a whimsical but classical approach.

What is wonderful about it is that Torkova does not come out there on stage and just try to wow you with just pure slight of hand. He also does not do every single coin vanish and production just because he can.
Bob Torkova has spent time to realize that a manipulator is still an entertainer and he or she must entertain first no matter what manipulations he or she is doing. Bob is a perfect example of this as he has a wonderful character the audience soon falls in love with and can relate to. He has great music that envokes an emotional repsonse from the audience and helps tell the story. He has a clear cut theme that is built around the act and everything in the act reflects back on this theme. He has a great story that goes along with his character and personna and lastly he does not hit you over the head with too much manipulation without reason. Torkova knows that a manipulator must have an entertaining act and I feel he has succeeded in creating a great act of coin manipulation that is also fun for his audiences to get engaged with. We can all learn from what he has done and create our own ways to bring a certain level to our manipulative routines. Kyle

Lou,
Check out Jahn Gallo. He's a great Swedish magician with a killer routine called the Osaka Bills ( http://www.gallo-magic.com/gallosida/lecture.html ). It's a miser's dream done with real bills. It's looks fantastic and the moves are easy to learn. The routine is on his Real World Magic CD complete with videos and detailed instructions for the Osaka Bills and a lot of other great magic. Bob is a pro and pros do not quit no matter what. Music does not make the act, skill, personality and charm wins everytime.

There is a money production act published in the Bruce Elliot book "Magic as a Hobby" on page 145 by Kolma.
Petrick and Mia have a nice bill production gimmick from a scarf. |

I am also planning to replace my dove act with spring bills loaded in the dove harness. There are so many magicians using doves nowadays that it is so common among the lay people. My idea of producing money would be different among the rest of the guys. Besides, these spring bills can be loaded at home before the show, whereas doves have to be loaded a few minutes before showtime. Less stress for on my part.

Lou,
Years ago Ward Thomas developed an act with parasols for the very reason you stated. Too many magicians doing doves and less hassles. His entire act was a hybrid dove act done with parasols. Richard
