Geeze, first Mickey and now you...
Han(g) Ping Chien though that's phonetic, and currently folks are getting crazy with the Xs in anglicized spelling of Chinese names. No idea why X instead of Z though.
...to all the coins I've dropped here

I believe it is: Hang Ping Chien
I like doing this in mid-air. Much, much more difficult, but very powerful move. TomK |

Hey Tom, didn't Jay Sankey do it in mid-air too in one of his routines or explanations? He covered the HPC indepthly on his Revolutionary Coin Magic dvd, and I thought he showed that version of it as a variation, but maybe not??? He did however show how to use the sleight in a variety of ways in several tricks/routines. Also covered things like the Gallo Pitch and the Tenkai/Goshman Pinch. Did a pretty good job of it I thought too.

It's "Han Ping Chien".
I just grabbed Bobo's and Kaufman's COINMAGIC off my shelf and took a peek in them confirm the spelling in both. |

If you wanted to spell it in modern pinyin, it would be "Han Ping Qian".

This routine is modified from the one in Bobo, The Magical Filtration of Four Half Dollars. I use silver dollars, and I do not do the moves through the table. It is really powerful magic though. When I learned the Aerial Han Ping Chien, I could not do it at all to save my life. My brain knew, but my hands had no idea. So, I put the coins up for one whole week, and just simply thought about what had to be done. Then when I picked up the coins after a week, I was able to do it the first time. Talk about practicing!! Han Ping Chien...like chinese food...1 hour later, you're hungry for another move. And for those who are not bi-lingual...Han Ping Chien loosely translated into english means Gallo Pitch !

I agree. If you are going to do it, do it right. Whether it is on the table or mid-air, make sure you put the time and effort into practicing this before you consider performing it for anyone in a routine.

BTW, on a more informative level, I should mention, that the HPC basic handling, as used with such great expertise in handling, both by Slydini, Dai Vernon and many others in it's basic but VERY effective form, has countless of variations, some of them even probably difficult to detect as being (variations of) HPC!
The most well known move, no doubt, is Lou Gallo's *Gallo pitch* as best explained in print, in his book *The Underground Man*. But, there are soo many other variations. I would love to let you all have the URL to a the capture of a short 4 coin routine, where the HPC is used twice, but in variations that could make it hard to detect and are entirely different from the basic premise, just 2 variations that differ from the basic premise, but nevertheless are *true* HPC handlings...but as the ending of that routine does use a creation of Mike Gallo, I can't put it up in public for you all to se. Oh, one more.., for going back to *What does Han Ping Chien mean in *english*? Did you know that ppl handling coins extremely well are generally known as a *Mike Gallo* ? (Sorry Mike, couldn't resist)
