Christmas shows are more likely to be after dinner (adult) or children's shows at the company party, not to say that there aren't any walk around at the company Christmas party.
To find an agent or agents in your area there are a number of approaches. Speak to other performers in your area that you are friendly with and ask who they are with. Do a search on the internet and in the yellow pages. Look at communities that are in your comfort zone for travel and not just where you live. Often an agent's territory is much larger than yours. Contact them direct and then have a good promo package (often including a video or DVD) to send to them. There are a lot of good agents out there, but you may already be too late for this year's Christmas season. All the best, Rob |

The phone book is your best friend if you have no agent. Most banks insurance companies and any company that has over 40 employees will have a Christmas party of some sort. Find out who is in charge of entertainment and sell yourself.
Find a price that fits your market and have at it. This works!!!!! You will have many many calls with no bookings, but it is a big phone book. It takes time and perserverance, if you have both of these qualities you will win in the end.

So banks and insurance companies are good? What other types of businesses are good to market to?
Thanks!

Law firms.............depending on your area of the country there are conglomerates for farms and such....... Like I said the PHONE BOOK is ripe with business for you to market to.
Construction companies are great too. Look for businesses with over 40 or so employees. Maybe offer your services to a local restaurant to do their Christmas parties. Maybe offer them a commission. There are lots of ways to do this.

What does dave dee suggest?
Go through the yellow pages and find the companies with large ads, usually they are a big company. Where do companies go first when organising an event-- The Venue. Go to the venue managers, call them up and go in and perform for them , ask if you can perform in their lunch hour. Referral in the entertainment business is going to get you more work than a flyer. Getting a few venue managers to suggest your services can get you a ton of work. What you will need is a business card and a letter of introduction with some of your clients and also how and where magic can be used at corporate events. Such as pre dinner drinks to break the ice, and cocktail parties. After dinner roving when the dancing starts (as not everyone dances) and sell the fact that you don't require stage, lighting or audio, you arrive and am ready to perform. For Lots of Venue managers it's a job- not their passion so you want to make it easy for them to suggest you that fact that you can arrive and perform instantly is great because that means the venue manager doesn't need to do anything extra. Commissions You will need to work out a price for the venue and what they will make- because they are not going to do it for free. I try and give them as much as possible and I always turn it into- "if you book me you can put on an extra staff member or two at no extra cost"- Venue managers love cost reduction, or give your important client a bottle of Moet as a that you present after the event. You will need a suit- you can't perform in jeans at corporate events (on average) -----oops I just looked at your web site- I don't think I need to tell you about the jeans. On a personal note- I would suggest splitting your web site in half-- 1 for your kids shows and 1 for corporate for example on your strolling page you have ~ Children Parties ~ Picnics ~ Luncheons ~ Dinner parties ~ Cocktail parties ~ Award Banquets and pictures of kids smiling- ---I don't think a corporate company will hire you after seeing these pictures. I would have the types of events you do and 1 or 2 reasons why you would be hired, such as Cocktail party- Get people socialising, & Break the ice and stimulate conversation. You wan to paint a picture in their mind. I often see other magicians web sites and they say, I do Trade shows, Gala Dinners, roving stage, etc. But they never explain what their purpose is at their events- realistically when you say I'm a magician and I do trade shows- no one knows what that means. Check out my web site if you like, I have split mine down the centre into wedding & Corporate- I have a portfolio section so people can see what I have done at past event and all that jazz. cheers David |
