Hi,
I am starting to use microphones in my shows. Does anybody have any jokes or stunts that can be used in association with them? |

There is an appearing microphone stand available. I've seen it advertized, but I don't remember who makes it.

You can shock yourself with a sparking "funken ring" while messing around with the microphone cord.

The late mark hendrikson used to do a cut and restored mic cord. he'd gather the middle in a loop, cut it with funken ring effect, have power cut from board or just turn off switch to make the mic dead, then restore it with the sound back on.

Paul Zenon does a version of the above effect just cutting out his voice vocally to produce the effect, it's very funny.
Freddie Starr did a thing where he pretended the mic was stuck trying to pull it out of the holder. Then jerked it out smacked himself on the forehead and fell over backwards. Really stupid, but Freddie gets away with stuff like that so I laughed a lot. You can float a mic with a zombie hand gimmick. Lee Evans reworked the old rope gag with his mic. (You know the one where you pull it off stage and then apparently pull yourself on). He also did a routine with two mics rising and falling while trying to speak into them. George |

A cut and resrored rope followed by the mic cord is a killer way to do it. As described above works quite well. With the advent of cordless mics it is tougher to find places to do it but it is a good bit.

Bill Hicks, and others, did (& do) a joke about smokers & how they'll end up if they keep smoking. They talk whilst holding the microphone against their neck. If you try it out you'll understand what I mean. P.

Mitch hedberg is a comedian who sadly passed away this year but what he used to do is say......"if I pinch this microphone cord and let it go you can hear a bunch of jokes come out all at once" (get it like a hose with water)

Funken ring ? is that a high quality prop?
George Carl. I'd pay a lot of money to get to see him do this. Too bad he's gone. Is there any footage of him doing this anywhere on earth?

Frank, if you don't have a Funkenring, buy one and try this:
Enter an elevator and reach out to press a button. A soon as you get close to the button release the Funkenring. After a short scream and with little shocked look on your face ask any person if they could push the button for you... You surely will find out pretty quick about the quality of this product... ..keep smiling, Sven

Some mic gags I know are really quite old, and some of it are great with both kids and adults alike.
1. Lets start with the "is this thing on?" and tapping on the mic line. 2. The cord dis-connecting from the mic and falling to the floor when your talking gag. 3. Asking your volunteer a question and switching the mic off when he or she answers, then turning it on when its your time to speak. tapping on the mic looking at the sound technician (or an imaginary technician if theres none) or your assistant and saying, "i think theres something wrong with this mic?" or if you don't like insulting or making fun of your volunteer do it the other way around. 4. You make the volunteer shout HOCUS POCUS (emphasize on Pocus) or any word with the letter P for that matter, on the mic, do a double take on the mic, look closely at the mic head, pause, look at your volunteer and wipe the mic on his shirt as if wiping out some of his spit, you could also use your handkechief for a classier touch. 5. Vanishing your mic via your Topit 6. This one takes practice and a round based mic-stand. after placing the mic in the stand, let the mic-stand tip over and when its almost about to hit the floor, step on the round base so that the mic stand will stand up again. but be very careful the mic doesn't hit your head, nose or mouth or else youre gonna get more laughs, well, maybe you can just pretend that it hits you, because trust me, it really HURTS!
PERFORM MAGIC AND NOT "PUZZLES" so the audience wont try to "figure out how its done".

I have a Vanishing Mic Stand. It disappears, but leaves the round black base and the mic/holder. Any ideas? I thought of it just disappearing while I walk in front of it, but I work a lot of bars, and to ppl sitting in the back, that mic stand could have just tipped over and they can't see it anymore. I need something more amazing... but it doesn't "disappear" quick enough to do a fully visual vanish. I've been sitting on this prop for almost a year (well, not literally sitting on it; I've just had it at my office trying to find a good use for it). Any help is greatly appreciated, by both myself and future audiences! Thanks!

Using a hidden camera, he walked into an electrical shop and was looking around at various products. As soon as the sales assistant was in view, he asked them if the product was in good working order etc. He then touched a dial on the product and let off the Funkenring.... the look on the face of the assistant was priceless! He also did a similar thing with a handheld squeaker in a pillow store and a bra store! No real magic but absolutely hilarious! Marcus |

I remember seeing Jerry Lewis back when mics had wires. I forgot the lines, but he had the mic in talking position and held the wire about two feet down against his chest and he let go of the mic and it would swing down and between his legs, just long enough to miss Jerry's gems. It doesn't sound great but it got a good reaction at the time. It was even funnier the second time, when someone came in late and he would repeat the first part of his routine in fast forward to help the late person catch up to everyone else.
Nothing would get done at all, if man waited so long that no one could find fault with it.
