I am looking for a site to get really original business cards, not plain squares cards. If you can help, I would be grateful.
Thanx

I'm not sure what is available on-line. Have you tried a local printer? They often have an in-house designer who can help with this kind of thing.

If you go to a printer, make sure you ask about the options. Quite often they will charge the same for black and white as they do for colour! Depends on quality etc., but worth asking about.

If you really want something different and creative you're much better off trying to find a designer first rather than going straight to a printer. The standard of design work produced by most printers is what I would describe as “competent” rather than original.
First choice would be a design agency, but obviously they can be a bit pricey so if you are trying to save money you could: 1. Find a freelancer; ring around different agencies explaining the work you want produced and your budget limitations, a lot (though not all) will pass you on to a much cheaper one-man band they use for overspill work. This way you know you’re still getting a professional. 2. Contact a college that teaches graphic design, and see if they will present you business card design as a project to their students. If you push the creative angle in your brief (what is magic and how can it be represented in the physical world etc?) they may accept it. 3. Find a graphic design student (or better still, one who has just left college and is looking for a job) who is keen and wants creative work for their portfolio. People like this will jump at any opportunity to get creative “real world” work in their “Bag.” Again, you can ask at agencies and colleges. Whoever you settle on make sure they also have basic knowledge of print and reprographics. Good Luck Dave |
