Steve Taylor has a video called "Fooling your dummy" that talks about a good many effects that can be done with your vent act.

I have to agree with Kyle. I saw Steve perform these at the Vegas Convention this year and bought the DVD myself. Good ideason the video.
I am also partial to some of the dummy mind reading effects. The audience knows the vent is the performer and this alone gets a laugh..and then when the figure gets it right..either via "cheating" with a hole in the bag etc, they cheer his ability. its a funny thing to me. LOL Chris |

You can do so many magic tricks with your figure. Like Chris said the mind reading effects is always a hit especially with the adults. I do a skit for kid shows that includes the dove pan and the change bag and it works very well.

I am working on a vent mentalism act using my Crow hand puppet that I bought along with a neat card trick where he actually finds a selected card in a closed card box. I forgot who created the effect, but I bought it from him at the Cleveland IBM Convention a couple of years ago.
The puppet has a squeeker/crow call built in, and I have been using that for him to communicate with me, and then I relay it the audience. It has taken off the edge of anxiety of me trying to voice it. I even start out by mimicking his squeeker vocally and looking around and acting like I don't know hwere it came from. I do it a couple of times, then finally "find him." Anyway it always gets a good response, but I am doing a lot more mentalisim in my act, and think that having a "partner" like the crow would add to the overall entertainment value. So now I think I am about ready to put words into his mouth , er beak. I have already started collecting bits and pieces of humor and beginning to script a routine. I don't yet know what his voice will sound like, but I don't think anyone will care as long as it doesn't sound exactly like mine and my lips don't move too much ![]() Does that make sense to you? Or do you think it really doesn't matter at all? Thanks BroDavid
If you stand for nothing, you will fall for anything.
