Does anyone know where to find the jacket that Jeff McBride often wears?
It looks like a cross between a smoking jacket and a karate Gi. Nice big pockets and loose fitting with a wrap around belt. He wears it for close up and he wore it on the DVD library he did with Eugene Burger called 'Magical Voyages".
I've search all over the internet and not found anything like them.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks...

I don't see how any of the costumes he wears would be off the rack. His jackets have to be custom made. If that's what you are looking for, it wouldn't be a tall order for an experienced tailor. As you said it's sort of a cross between a smoking jacket and a Karate Gi.

It is called a Japenese Happy Coat, if you have one go to your local China Town, they generally have them there. The belt is something that he got while on the road I would assume.

So how much would one pay for this Happy Coat? Ballpark would be OK. If you find a source - would you let us know.
Thanks

Ah thanks Caveat Lector. Well he certainly looks happy and comfortable in those coats. I wouldn't wear one on stage but wouldn't mind one to wear while on vacation etc.

Thanks for the info gang.
I wouldn't wear one on stage either. Close up or strolling, they would be perfect.
I'm really not sure how much I would pay. I guess it would depend on a lot of factors.
Caveat Lector, I couldn't get your link to work.

That link didn't work for me either but just enter "Happy Jacket" into a search engine and you'll find many sellers. As far as how much you'd pay, this seems to be one of those items that say much about the wearer. I imagine the orientals invest time and money in their selection or custom designs. Selection can be as important as a suit to a westerner.

Daniel I can see this work for your strolling magic etc. Comfortable for the person wearing it and makes for a great costume!

That link worked. I entered happy coat in google and came up with a few sites.
As soon as I changed happy to happi I really hit the sites.
These look like they could do the job!

Incase you didn't come across this site:

http://www.jlifeinternational.com/appare......n_e.html

They have a few dozen to pick from. The jacket looks pretty simple in design and you may consider purchasing one as a sample for your tailor! Buying fabric of your choice and preferred design to have a tailor make leaves choices entirely up to you.

I'm going to give it a shot. Wouldn't mind having a couple of these things around here.
