I'd like to perform this routine, maybe with a small glass table
over the "real" table. Someone tried to do this before or is this printed somewhere? I assume I have to use a gaff to accomplish this in the cleanest way, maybe a [ or a flipper. Any suggestion? |

Let's see. John Cornelius used to show around a very nice application of the muscle pass.
David Roth put his trick with a miniature table in his book, Expert Coin Magic. James Lewis put his coins UP through a glass tabletop in his lecture and on his video. Just a few references off the top. I'm sure there are others around. Like Vinny said, David Neighbors has worked on the trick and I believe he put something in print in Apocalypse magazine long ago.
...to all the coins I've dropped here

Dean Dill has something that will be released pretty soon exactly as you ask - a small glass table that can be placed over a real one.
I have seen a prototype at LVMI, and it was really cool looking. From some of ideas I saw demonstrated, it's going to be a pretty devestating routine. |

James Lewis' "Visible Coins Through the Glass Table" was also released in a booklet on it own. I recently picked up a used copy from H&R books for $11.

It took me awhile to remember where this was but Derek Dingle has a version of the coins through glass table called "X-Ray Coins" in the Winter Extra 82-83 of Richard's Almanac. Note that this is a routine that Derek never worked out all the bugs and did not want published.

I've seen James Lewis do his routine, and it is inspired. The Dingle routine has the coins traveling down through the table, and you can't beat it for quirky coolness of props: three coins, a ], a ~, and a cigarette. It was designed for Doug Henning to perform on TV so special emphasis was placed on the look of the thing, and Dingle's idea of holding the lit cigarette under the glass table to add a veil of mystery is genius.
I think this would be a good trick to apply a Swadling coin to, and let the spectator cause the second to last coin to go through.

Thinking about the D. Roth routine, could be nice to use a mini gambling table, casino chips instead of coin and a plot about how casinos make money.
Let me know what you think. |

Brillis,
I like the idea. There are stories of crooked gamblers cheating by sneaking chips off the table, and this could be an "explanation" of the technique. Also, the clay nature of the chips helps hide the method a bit, especially in countries where the coins are, shall we say, more "attractive" than ours.

Happy you appreciate Curtis.
Could be nice also to use a green table cloth for the final part of the routine, like the one that casinos use to cover their tables at the end of the day, and a plot like "... and when the police arrive the chaters erase every evidence..." or somenthing like this when the table disappear. |
