It is worth it if you are going to use it, and more suitable for the stand up worker. If you are just a hobbyist I would not recommend it. You would probably dismiss it and feel cheated.
Derren Brown used it, with different presentation, in his first TV special. Paul. |

There is a thread on this topic near the bottom of "The Good, the Bad, and the Garbage" which might be helpful to you.

Thank you, but the discussion there is about the book- Psychological Subtleties. Thanx anyway, I appreciate the help.

In terms of impact, I think this is first class. However, it is one of those items you will read and think - why didn't I think of that!

Sort of. I agree, Paul, that Derren's 'twins' routine looked like a version of Psychokinetic Touches, but I also promise you he had some additional 'technical' help. It would be against forum policy to say any more. To answer the OP, if you're anything more than a hobbyist curiosity-seeker, I'd say buy it. You may not want to use Banachek's exact presentation, but you will want to know the principle which is mentalism gold.

That's what it is. A stage effect. You could (maybe) use it at slightly closer quarters, maybe platform or 'far end of the dining room' sort of presentation, but the nearer the specs are the harder it is to deliver completely effective deception. But it's still a wonderful piece of mentalist thinking which thrilled me when I first learned about it. I don't actually perform PT because it's just not my cup of tea, but the underlying method is one which I've applied in countless other ways.

Hi Ian,
For the twins effect your talking about, my wife a non magician said, "oh he just used one of those chairs all the comedian/magicians use that give an electric shock. phillip |

IMO PT is well worth using. When it works it REALLY works, and I have seen some of my work colleagues left open-mouthed and dumfounded (not a pretty sight, I can assure you!) It’s one of these effects you can use when you get a couple of people asking you to do “one of them mindreading things” and is distinctly different from the run of the mill “think of a number” effects they are expecting. That, I think, is its real strength.

When I perform, my spec wears a kind of blindfold...that helped me much and B. did like this idea, too.
I recommend this principle of PT highly. |

Oh, I like the idea of the blindfold. Thanx. (Consider it stolen!)

No - this was performed on the blonde twins (remember the shoulder taps?) and didn't work particularly well! |

PK Touches is a brilliant effect if you can sell it right. If not, it will fall flat with your audiences. There is no need to blindfold anyone as it detracts from what you are intending on doing, and it can be used in a close-up situation and even in a surrounded situation. Again though, without a strong presentation and sell, it will fall flat.
It also takes some good rehearsal, practice and "chutzpa" to do it well and on stage, the addition of music (I use "tibetian bells") enhances the impact. PSIncerely Yours, Paul Alberstat |
