Kjellstrom,
Thanks for the clip. That routine (except for the production) is "Sh4de" by Daniel Garcia. Joe

OH yeah. Way too fast. Neato, but too fast.
I'd be interested to hear the patter. Perhaps it's done auctioneer style...

Not the style I prefer for myself (fast) but very nice demo of Sh4de with cool production. Anyone knows who this is? Is it Garcia himself?

Ditto what everyone else has said. I though it looked really nice though a bit fast. I also noticed that most of the viewer comments were pretty whiny. People can be so negative. They're probably just jealous.

The production is not for me, but yes pretty similar if not identical to SH4DE.

I guess I can answer the questions.
I know this man, he's from HK too. A quite talented coin worker in his twenties. And for the questions: Lefay- No not garcia. Answered already. Clarioneer- No he isn't rushing. This is the speed when he does any coin stuff... trust me, this is His 'TYPICAL' speed. Joseph- Most of his coin acts are silent. Nope, no exception to this one. I hope he doesn't mind me answering for him. I guess I should call what's written above as "MHO". |

Why do magicians evaluate a performance by seeing if it fits their style?!!!!!!!!!
Instaid of trying to see it from a spectator's point of view. Do we as magicians REALLY KNOW what works for spectators. Or do we base our (opinions)on only our own experiences. Not everyone has to do everything the same way. OK, we can give our opinions, but "too fast for my style" isn't really evaluating his performance. If it doesn't fit your style, does it mean it's a bad performance? I don't think so. If you think it is to fast, why is that? Was your head spining after seein it? Were you confused, couldn't really follow what the EFFECTwas? Or are you looking for a move but couldn't find, and wish it was a little slower so you can catch it? What, what is it? Will |

I actually LOVED the production. It made me go "wow" which doesn't' happen often. I haven't seen Sh4de but if it's as good as that I'm in. I do so many barehanded assemblies as it is now...

I liked it too, very, very well done....The point about others preferences are just that, their preferences. I think the goal is to see the ability, creativity and possibilities in a thing, not necessarily how it fit's the "me" in us. I don't think if I was doing this slow, that I would be able to do it this good. This particular application I think works with the speed attached to it. Again, I like it...It's very well done, no doubt the guy is tremendously talented.
Funny, if you look at a lot of Matrix-type effects, people have their likes and dislikes...But the inventor Al Schneider mentioned his personal dislike of a lot of them, but it doesn't stop people from liking what they like, fast or slow, a few coins or many, cards or no cards. Interesting.

The coin production looks VERY magical, and the speed is appropriate to the illusion.
The coin assembly is not magical at all. It looks like he's sliding coins around on the table so fast you can't catch him. |

Larry, does that mean you can't appreciate good Ping Pong??? I'm sure you can...They are the 2 tennis players on speed you speak of, only they ain't on speed... Lotta beauty in what they do, with all that speed.

Had a humorous thought about all this leaning over and covering stuff:
Performer takes an odd coin and puts it way at front of table. Then arranges four silvers into a square formation. Then leans over and picks up the odd coin And when they lean back... What do you think?

Mb217, I love good Ping Pong (and play it myself)!!!!! But in my opinion, there's a big difference between Ping Pong being played fast and magic being performed fast. The goal in Ping Pong is to win, and playing fast can help further that goal. One of the primary goals in magic is to "fool" the audience (maybe "fool" isn't the best word, but you get the idea), and confusion, which results from this speedy approach in my opinion, impedes that goal.
