Some while ago I saw a magic show with a guy that stole watches from the audience without they're even noticing it. I find it very hard to believe that they didn't feel the watch coming out
Can I learn to do this? Is it pratical? Are there any books or dvds on the subject? |

Amazing eh? But darned if it doesn't work. There is a plethora (Jefe, would you say I have a plethora of pinatias?) of material out there on the subject. I learned from Kevin Kings Watch Bandit video. There may be some more recent releases which people prefer but that vid was great.

One of the best sources for information on how to steal watches is Chappy Brazil's Watch Steal video. He covers every type of watch around, and the misdirection needed to do it. There are a few things to keep in mind, however, before you undertake this line of study.
First, you WILL get caught. Especially when you first start, but even after years of doing it, you will get caught from time to time. Greg Wilson has some good ideas on how to handle these situations on his On the Spot videos. If getting nailed while performing gives you cold chills, then watch stealing probably isn't for you. Second, you MUST be a touchy-feely kind of person. Watch stealing is about touching, so if you aren't comfortable grabbing people by the arm, or patting complete strangers on the back, the watch stealing probably isn't for you. Third, you have to seem honest and convivial. If there is even a hint that your watch stealing is anything other than an entertainment trick, you're in trouble. Jim Morton |

Jim Ravels 'Theatrical Pick-Pocketing' is the book I learned the watch steal from. It was out of print for awhile but I believe it is now being brought out again, it's great, it covers everything.
From selecting volunters, acts, if you get caught, tricks to do watch steals and by that I mean every type of watch from leather strap to metal expansion, band wallet steals, pocket steals, misdirection and touching. Phew, now that I've got my breath back, and that's only half of the content. Well, happy reading and I hope it helped.

I have a few "watch steal" videos in my collection. The effect is great but must say it's not so easy. This takes practice and even with practice you can still get burned. I would recommend having some type of back up plan just in case.

haha... I feel when you do a watch steal. A great way is using the (what I call) Blaine method. Te shakes the persons hands and pretends two cards in their hands are going switch places. Great cover for the removal

To find these books and videos;
Check dealer websites. Call dealers. There is even a great book among the items in an estate I am helping to liquidate. Check marketplace>estate sale on this forum.
You have to give it away to keep it.

Or Go to http://www.magicsmith.com
and do a search for watch steal type "watch steal" into the little box on the magic smith homepage that says "search"). You will get a list of video’s, a DVD and at least one booklet on the subject. Go for it!

Chappy Brazil's video is OUTSTANDING!
The creadit 'Theatrical Pick-Pocketing' as well, another great info source. The Brazil Tape covers a lot of band types as well as what ones to avoid. It also has a section on routines that make it less a sucker trick, as well as a section on how to practice. |

I've been doing the watch steal for some time now. I've noticed something that seems to be getting popular and it makes us "honest thieves" lives much easier..
I see many woman wearing those kind of watches that are made of hard plastic. They are hinged in the middle and open up to fit over their wrist. These things are sooo easy to take.. Ron Jaxon |

James Freedmans DVD is really good and worth purchasing.
At the Balackpool convention Martin Cox did a watch steal and used the guys watch as the final load in cups and balls, it was excellent, the guy was stunned, Dizzy |

I learned the watch steal from Jason Randall. His 2 second watch steal is about the most direct you can do. I used the stolen watch as a final load for the chop cup. FLOORS 'EM!!

Jaxton, I just encountered that kind today, but it was metal. Like BUTTA! I wish they were all like that.
scottasf, was that from the person himself or a book or dvd? |
