I was looking through the handbook for my younger son's Cub Scout troop. I am proud to say that I have a Bear Cub on my hands! Smile As I was perusing the book, I came across a section on some of the activities...one was putting on a magic show. They had some great ideas. One thing that impressed me was their version of a floating body. It was simple, but if done right, is very impressive! I'm hoping the other Bears want to do that activity. The Den leader already knows that I'm willing to assist in teaching magic (I've already done a small show for the Blue and Gold Banquet). We'll just see how the year progresses.

I got interested in magic whilst in Cub Scouts because one of the other boys in my Cub pack was Glenn Falkenstein's son; Glenn would put on a show for us every year.

In addition to the Bear Cub book, you should get a copy of Cub Scout Magic. You're right, the levitation can look very, very good.

Best of luck!

That is a great story. Being inspired and seeing Glenn perform, must have been quite an experience and a lasting impression on your young mind at the time. I too recall a magician coming to our blue and gold dinner and me being so impressed with what he did that I wanted to learn it to. It is funny now how the tables have changed and now I am the one teaching kids magic and performing at those events each year.

Margarette:

I think putting on a show or a magic skit would be a great way to get the kids involved in something fun and also possibly get some of them intersted in the art of magic.

I've already done one show for their Blue and Gold Banquet last year. I'm proud to say that my son won the award for the "hardest working scout" in the pack. He was the only one to get not only a gold arrow point, but two silver arrow points. None of the others got any arrow points. The kids liked the magic show I did, and they voiced their opinions that they'd love to have me back.

That is great news and congrats to both yourself and your son. You also help to prove that anyone can do magic no matter of sex or race and that you can have fun doing so. I hope you may have inspired others to get involved in the art of magic.

Cub scouts are a tough unforgiving audience, if you can entertain them you can entertain anybody.

I'm sure you meant you can entertain regardless of race, age, or sex as long as you have talent, desire, and you do your homework.
