I just got news that Nick Tomei passed away yesterday. I know that I am one of MANY who admired this amazing man.
I got to know Nick about 10 years ago when I did a story on his life and career when I was the newsletter editor for SAM #148 in the Chicago Suburbs. In recent years, I would call Nick whenever I had a school assembly in his area, and he would often come out and watch the show. He was extremely kind to me, and always looked as sharp as a tack. That's one of the great things about magic...that Nick and I developed a friendship even though we were 60 years apart. I am thankful to have known him.

Feel so terrible as I had gotten the address to send him a card after his back injury and had not gotten it done.
I only knew Nick in passing but you could tell how special he was. He loved magic all types. Richard

The magic community has suffered a great loss. Tim is so right on every count. Nick was a perfect gentleman. He inspired me too. A few years ago, Sue nand I appeared on a show with Nick (Nick was 91)and Jay Marshall (Jay was 82). There were other acts too, but with thise two guys, who cared. They stole the show.

Nick was always a happy guy and enthusiastic about Magic and everything else he touched. I remember when he first retired from the grocery business. He was so delighted to be able to devote his time to the Magic that he loved. If asked, he would also spend considerable time telling you the "secret" for a happy retirement is to provide for it years in advance of the actual event by wisely managing a portion of your financial resources on a regular basis and never deviating from this course.
All-in-all, one pretty smart cookie! God bless you, Nick. |
