My local SYM group recently acquired a few illusions from the father of an illusionist who moved away,(mis-made,zig-zag,sub trunk and interlude) and we had a raffle for them. I won second place(which means if the first person doesn't want it, I get it) for the sub trunk and interlude. Anyway, the guy who won the sub trunk didn't want it so we went to pcik it up today and when we got home I got a phone call from my SYM leader saying I can also have Interlude, but the problem is, I have no room for it. So I would like to know if you think Interlude is good/worth it and I can try to make room for it.

Interlude is an amazing illusion. If you can't make room for it, take it, and try to sell it. It is a great illusion and definetly worth taking.

I never quite understood interlude. It is a cool effect when you think about it, but when you don't think that hard you kind of understand how it works. I saw a great presentation where the woman actually appeared out of the magician via BA. It was very creative and stunning.
That being said, I would take the illusion only if it is an authorized make (some look horrid). Plus there might be a way to turn it into a temporary coffee table. -MATT KAP

I have a real interlude and have used it twice in the past month to great response...now keep in mind this is one of those illusions which you should have a REAL ONE, not a rip off copy. if this interlude you're aquiring is not built by johnny gaugnh don't waste your time. there is so much more going on with a real interlude that the rip off builders have no idea about which makes it more stunning and impressive than some piece of junk knock off. every rip off I have seen is more or less an exposure prop because the architecture of it is soooo incorrect that it gives away the secret.
another thing to keep in mind is that interlude is one of the most physically demanding illusions for the assistant as well as yourself and should really be made around your body type for maximum effect and affect. Your girl will cry and have bruises up and down the side of her body when you first start rehersing and your back will scream of muscle aches you never knew you had...just remember to stretch before every performance. I speak more passionately about this prop because since I was young it was my dream illusion, my lions cage, zig zag, etc...the one that when I saw Copperfield do it and sigfreid and roy do it I was in awe of the beauty of it. rip offs of props like this should not be encouraged for safety and just respect. this is a whole different topic obviously so I won't get too far into it, but out of respect for those that work hard with props like this, including myself, please think twice. nothing beats teh original...if its an original go for it, if not...run or take it and burn it and make smores...you'll get more out of that than you'd get out of performing the rip off...

Sperris could not be more correct in his observations. A friend of mine has one of Johnny Gaughan's and there are far more subtleties and techniques than even an experienced builder would be inclined to notice. Truly the whole is greater than the sum of its parts... but it still takes all of the parts to make it whole!
Without exception, every "home-built" Interlude I've seen or seen photos of make me want to gag. They do far more to expose the workings of the illusion than they do to illustrate the desired effect. I do like the idea of burning one to make s'mores... I would have just suggested burning it for household heat, but the s'mores are a much better idea. |

Sperris speaks a world of truth when it comes to the Interlude....
I've been at this for sometime now and have jumped out of more boxes than I care to count. The Interlude is, by far, the toughest I've had to deal with. We put it in our Halloween Show "Slash" this year. Timing what it is I had only a week to learn it. By day two I was sure I'd have to open wearing pants to hide what it did to my legs..and the poor guy. For every bruise I got he got a spiked heel in the magic wand...ouch. Still the story has a happy ending. Five weeks into the run, I and the Interlude get along okay and the crowds really seem to like it. So, if your willing to work with it, it can be worth it. Ms.M

Thanks Frank and Ms. Morgan...one thing I forgot to mention too, and I'm not going to name names but there are quite a few of them here on the Café, but they for some reason think its a good idea to have the interlude in mid-crawl through as a promo photo...especailly with the rip off versions to me this is just a bad idea. I don't use the gimmick with mine...i just grin and bear it, but I know that the rip offs don't even come with the gimmick which makes for an even more obvious exposure of the method because you're giving them an image to burn...ok I'm gonna stop cuz I could write a book as I'm sure most of us can...
PS>>> best smore's recepie...came up with it at Abbott's... Grahm cracker + Hersey chocolate bar + EL Fudge DOUBLE STUFF cookie + Marshmellow + Top Grahm cracker...its orgasmic

Those illusions on that site are built by studio dominik (they also build a lot for Tilfords) They specialise in RIPPING OFF illusions and creations by other desingers / builders and produce shockingy low quality props, in many cases with little or no regard for safety etc. Don't touch them with a barge pole....!
Our annual sale of Costumes & props is now on - view them at www.IllusionExchange.com

Absolutely not. They are rip offs and should be avoided like the plague.
