Did King Midas have magical cedar blocks in his closet, that changed the moths to metal? Did some of those moths get out and can they be found even today?

As the great Robert-Houdin once said, "A magician is a comedian, playing the part of a magician." So yes, I always go for the laugh.
Frank, as you know, our job is not to "fool" our audiences, but to bring them to another plane of consciousness over their plate of cheesesticks, while at the same time, fleecing them for the highest tip. This is our highest calling. To this, I am motivated. |

Ok, I am now a confirmed Doug Brewer fan!
He is CLEARLY an artist of the highest (ie.Monty Python) order, and should be revered as such. |

I think Doug must have searched and found my famous recipe for "old fashions".
He's been on a roll for a couple nites now. I think I'm going to celebrate (I'm not sure what) by thumbing thru "The Unexpected Visitor", sipping wine and hopefully watching the kings kick the suns @ss. ... on TIVO of course. It'll be a plucking good time.

Quick question here: does the production of a coin at the fingertips from an elbow/knee/ear/spectator's bosom ever constitute a sound deception, unless you have first made a STRONGLY persuasive case for an empty hand? The intuitive answer, of course, is no. Why then do coin routines abound in which concealment EXCLUSIVELY (finger palm/classic palm) is called upon to produce the deception?
While it may strike the spectator as unlikely that a loose, relaxed hand with open fingers (and how often do we truly see this?) actually conceals a coin, the subsequent production convinces them that this is PRECISELY what has taken place. If you insist on pulling a coin from your elbow (though to be honest I've never quite grasped the theatrical motivation here, apart from setting up some thoroughly hilarious puns) there are plenty of ways around this-- I'm thinking, for example, of The Midas Touch in Bobo, or the Sylvester Pitch, or any number of Slydini ruses. And yet, it continues. Why? |

PossumSlimm,
The emperor wears no clothes! I think you have hit on it. I think there are lots of techniques to improve the perception that the hand it empty and the coin gets pulled from the fabric. It is just that I see very few do it that way. Kirk |
