I'm performing my stand up magic act at a wedding next week. I do a lot of weddings walk around but this is 45 minutes as the FEATURED entertainment. No dancing. No Bands. ME! The clients has seen me work and the gig is at a restaraunt.
My standard act is tounge in cheek, naughty but nice act will be appropriate won't it? I don't swear or tell blue jokes at any point. Its a nice mixture of bill to lemon, bill switch, cards etc with a confabulation congratulations letter as a finale. (and maybe the human blockhead ) I just realised that I am the centrepiece of their special day and I want to make sure they are happy. |

Nicholas,
They booked you on what they have seen you do, Don't change it just go out and give them your best. Good Luck kOnO

Nicholas, congrats! Sounds like a great and fun gig. Don't change a thing of a successful act...but, I'm curious...Are you planning some feature where the bride dominates or "wins out" over the groom? An illusion where the bride can't speak..."Enjoy it, buddy...last time you're gonna ever see this!" An illusion where the bride ends up with all the money. An illusion where the groom turns out to be right and the bride wrong..."Enjoy the feeling...starting tomorrow, it's all her's again!"
Enjoy the gig...and take action photos to distribute to local DJ's. This could open a new market for you. :o) Skip

Be the guy they booked. Anything else is bait and switch.
They knew when they saw you who you were and what you did. Just go in and give them exactly that. If it fits their day it is THEIR job to figure out before they hire you. Same as picking out colors, or if they had a band. Your the pro, just do your job like one and have a great time.

Nicholas,
Make it fun but finish with a heartwarmer like Aniversary Waltz to leave the right impresson. PS How do you get away with bill switch with our currency (its all different colours and plastic for non aussies). Cheers Zamboni |

Zamboni - the colour is not a hassle, in the turnover action I wiggle my hand a little to cover the change. The plastic is a pain but only when trying to insert my thumb into the TT. I have a paper clip pinned in my pants to hold it down.
They just rang to tell me that NO ONE knows I am coming and I am a 'surprise'! How do you introduce yourself as a 'surprise'! |
