Everybody (who's interested) has already seen the video clip of the screaming "I'm a God warrior - y'all are dark sided!" lady.
I got the answer on the Fox Network website - wonder who else figured it out in advance? The "over the top" lady is described as a fiercely religious (oh, you already got that part, did ya?) mother from Nowhereville, Louisiana. "Marguerite’s largest concern in life is with anyone who doesn’t have God in his or her life. Marguerite believes such people are lost and could negatively affect her children. A fiercely religious Christian, Marguerite strives to ensure that only godly people are around her, having low tolerance for anyone she doesn’t think is worthy." (Surprise, surprise, surprise!) Who could they get who'd be ABSOLUTELY GUARANTEED to freak her out? What kind of family could she be stuck with, while her precious, Godly kids were subjected to that family's mother? This, I think, was guaranteed great reality TV but also really very cruel all around: "Jeanne is passionate about hypnotherapy, tarot cards, and pressure healing. As a hypnotist, she uses hypnosis to modify thought patterns... Jeanne often uses a pair of “aura goggles,” to look through a new-age prism to get a better look at her hypnosis patients... believes that your astrological sign is your owner’s manual." By the way, the girls in the video, seen looking on in cowed horror at the woman's explosion, were her daughters. Like putting pit bulls in a dogfighting ring - I am left shaking my head in dismay over the "everything's evil" fundie and the "new age hippie tree-hugger", I don't believe either one is likely to raise mentally healthy children, and I pity both families for having let themselves get talked into this reality-tv food-fight. |

When I saw that lady on a clip provided by someone here at the Café, I was sure she was a fake - an actress playing a role. Even looked as if they had used some makeup to make her eyes look more sunken in.
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

Shoot, I forgot about tuning in until near the very, very end.

Okay, so in the last few minutes it appears she was co-hosting a radio show, and she walked out when a surprise guest "psychic" was introduced. The last we see, she's pacing in the hallway, having the start of a meltdown.
Good news (?) ... the Faux network is dragging this out over a 2-part episode, and from the preview the BIG meltdown is still to air next time. :)

Wow, I watched it with my fiance tonight. And we both agreed that lady and her so called "christian" friends were wacked out of their minds. I do not know any Christians that are like that to other people. Personally I could never treat anyone like that, its sick. (I am talking about when the hypnotherapist is meeting Margarette's "church lady" friends.) It seemed way over the top.

Why do I think the next big trend in Reality TV is going to be mentally handicapped people?
"Friday Nights, be sure to catch "psycho's" the only TV show following around schizophrenics!!!!" Thursday nights is retarded children night, ect. The network execs will start to claim they are trying to show the diseases in better light or to educate the public about mental diseases, all the while cashing in on whatever will get people to watch... sickening. What a wonderful society we have created and must live in |

I completely disagree. You see her as a "brain burnout"? She has educated herself in multiple directions and shares that knowledge with others. I saw nothing that would lead me to believe she has a substance problem, quite the opposite. Hardly an Otto. I know plenty of christians who act like the hen party I saw last night. There are whole congregations of them. She learned this behaviour. Like I said before, these people exist. If you encounter any move fast in the opposite direction. Got plenty of laughs last night. I look forward to next week. |

So...we haven't really evolved so far from the days of Gladiators & lions. Relatively bloodless these days (unless you take into account Fear Factor, Survivor, Chris Angel and the latest boxing & fighting craze)...but, still...citizens everywhere are tuning into their personal coliseum seats to watch the latest victim of network needling and conniving back stabbing.
Whatever happened to entertainment? Red...Lucy...Sid...we miss you! Thank goodness for Discovery, A&E, National Geographic and History Channels. Skip :o(

Okay, that's fair - but psychic crapola, aura goggles, etc - I know there are educated and otherwise competent people out there whose "reality check" is turned off when it comes to New Age ookty-pookty (take a trip to Sedona Arizona sometime) but PLEASE don't put this gal in a dogfighting ring with someone who is just as far "off" in the opposite direction! PS - If we're in danger of getting sidetracked in defense of New Age stuff, I already cry "uncle" and plead with you to visit Randi's website: http://www.randi.org/jr/archive.html |

Rational thought on the decline, I agree with. Free thinking, I disagree. Honestly you must let your mind run wild to go to the extent, and formulate the beliefs that the zealots (Of any religion, or evolutionism for that matter) have been known to follow. I believe there should be a balance, and everyone should find their own way. We will only have proof when we die, otherwise we all have only faith, even if it only faith that there is nothing. But I believe Humans are incapable as a whole of any lasting balance.
Magic is doing improbable things with odd items that, under normal circumstances, would be unnessecary and quite often undesirable.

Rational thought and free thinking is definitely on the decline these days It's a symptom of the times - when people are afraid, they grab ahold of the first "solution" they find (Gotta DO something about illegal immigrants / gays / people who disagree with the President). Makes them feel like they're finally able to do something about the problems, and takes their mind off what else is going wrong. Garrison Keillor said it well: "When the country goes temporarily to the dogs, cats must learn to be circumspect, walk on fences, sleep in trees, and have faith that all this woofing is not the last word." |

I don't see the show as a dogfighting ring. I see it as a social experiment to see how people with opposing views will react and fair in the others environment. One woman was treated with kindness and respect for her beliefs (grace at the table) and the other openly shunned for merely skimming the surface of hers. Tolerance has never been a christian strong point, quite the contrary. Next week we will see the two women face each other, one will be rational with self control.
There was/is nothing but expected behaviour shown, but good for the public to see and think about. |

Sadly, it is what I have come to expect from television.
Good for the public to see and think about? That remains to be seen. It is possible for good to come from just about anything.
