I read it. It's an in-depth look at how Dai Vernon, sometimes with the help of Charlie Miller, infiltrated the Kansas City gambling scene in search of a card sharp who could deal middles. I enjoyed the book and would recommend it, but it's an extended dance mix of a 5000-word magazine article and the pacing could be better.

It is slow in places, but I am very glad I read it. The interesting places more than make up for things.

Alas, I am thinking of selling it because of a) I probably won't read it again, and b) cards are not my area of magic.

Still, a very interesting book. Lots of insight on Vernon the man.
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

I work in a library and saw it on the new arrivals shelf and picked it up and ended up reading it cover to cover. It was a wonderful book, being new to magic, it has been my introduction to the great Dai Vernon. It not only tells the story of his search for the cardsharp who could deal middles but it is also a fairly good biography of Vernon's life.
