Another New eBay Scam To Avoid
I saw an eBay auction on Sunday with a new type of scam. The scammers start by using an eBay account with some feedback that they have tricked someone into giving them log in information. Then they list an auction on eBay with a powerful title and a short description. Here's a sample description: "This is the most wanted _______ in the world. I feel sorry because I have to sell it but I really need the money at this time. If you want to see the picture please CLICK HERE (link) to enter my ebay picture manager." Some auctions have slightly longer first paragraphs, but they all have the same format. When you click on the link to ebay picture manager you are taken to a page that looks like an eBay login page. You can quickly tell this is a scam because eBay doesn't ask you to log in to see pictures, and the URL of the login page is not ebay.com. This is the first example of Phishing within an eBay auction I have seen. You can be certain these will become more frequent in the future. Remember never log into any page that has a url with anything between the word ebay and com except a period. All the best, John |

Thank you, John. Very helpful information. Sadly, this thread will probably be deleted because it makes reference to ebay. Let's hope the Grammar Host who sees this will move it to the "Tangled Web" category.

John,
By chance have you reported this to eBay. I would think they would take care of the ones that are found to be bogus. Thanks for the information. Chris |

DO report it to ebay. Send them a complete copy to spoof@ebay.com and they will be on it immediately! I accessed the link, but cannot find the site.
Wonder is very necessary in life. When we're little kids, we're filled with wonder for the world - it's fascinating and miraculous. A lot of people lose that. They become cynical and jaded, especially in modern day society. Magic renews that wonder.

I mailed spoof@ebay, but it just bounces back, because....
ebay does not recognise it as a spoof email! Thanks for the heads up. And be careful when you receive emails that look legitimately from Ebay with an urgent request for you to relog into your acct otherwise it will be suspended or revoked. That is a scam. They are "phishing" for your personal info for identity theft. Luckily my gmail acct spotted the fake email and I reported to Ebay.

NOW I know what happened to me!
Suddenly one day I got an email that my auction for an Apple computer was accepted and online. I went to the auction and sure enough, it was in my name. The auction told bidders that this was a 'sealed' bid and that they should send bids to an email address (yahoo). It didn't take me long to get the auction withdrawn but ebay investigated and it took two days to get my account active again. Now that you mention it I remember having to log back on once unexpectedly. |

I had something similar happen to me from an Apple computer "seller". I emailed the gentleman telling him I was interested and he sent me an invoice from Ebay (email bid thing). Well, he only accepted money orders and was selling for a "friend". The invoice claimed buyer protection, but I wasn't convinced. Seemed suspicious to me, so I forwarded the email to Ebay. Sure enough, they confirmed that Ebay did not send it. Not sure what happened after that.
Be careful out there kids. -Rich

This is not a new scam. This is an old scam that hackers and programmers use to use for yahoo logins. Programmers us them and change the passwords to make them a bot for booters. This is just another applicattion for it but many thanks for the heads up
