Does anyone have a specific way of preforming this? I ust can't get it. I'm using everything I can find, and so far I've tried a fifty cent piece, quarters, various plastic poker chips, and some chinese coins. Maybe its the grip. Help!

First try doing it sideways not upwards.

You're doing exactly waht you need to do... keep practicing. It's a knack, and it will come if you WANT IT BAD ENOUGH! The only way to fail is to give up.
Make sure you start in a high Classic Palm position (closer to the thumb than normal). Slowly squeeze with the big muscle of the thumb to apply pressure to the edges of the coin. Coin size an weight can make a difference. IMHO, it's good to practice with different coins to get a feel for the procedure. However, you'll want to practice most with the coin you will be using in performance. As with all coin sleights, some people will learn faster than others but anyone can learn with persistance. This is considered my many to be a very dificult sleight. There's a nice payoff if you keep working on it.
Mediocrity is greatly under rated!

It just needs proper positioning in your palm. Try experimenting with it. You'll soon get it. Good Luck.

He teaches it in his Foundation's section. You will have to answer a question to get in it. D |

In Michael Ammar's Classic Renditions Vol 1, there's a section from John Cornelius teaching the muscle pass......it's quite informative, and extremely helpful (and you get to see a MASTER of the muscle pass in action!)

It took me a long time to get it. And to be honest I have the mechanics, I just need to build strength now. Sideways does help the confidence level though.

I am using half dollars, and I find that putting it in classic palm close to your thumb works well. I am having trouble getting my thumb to move in such a way to put that much pressure on the coin to make it flip up, if I use two hands it flips up perfectly, but I can only SOMETIMES get it to jump about two centimetres with one hand, I am getting bruises on my hand but I am going to work at it till I get it!

Try Chinese coins or clay composite poker chips. they are lighter and propel higher.

I am best with silver dollars. Halves always seem to have that "flop." I need to practice more.

Some people took weeks after weeks to get this down to a presentable level, while others could have in shorter time. The first time I tried muscle pass, it took me 2 weeks to get it to pop, and so I gave up and thought it's better to practic something else. But as of late, my interest in coin grew again, so I thought let me try the muscle pass, and I got it down in 2 days (to reach about 4 inches in average).
I guess it comes down to how hard you want it and how much you practice. Because the more you practice (even if you don't know what the hell you're doing), the sooner you'll find the knack to it. |

I cheat by using a palming coin. Much higher than my halves. My halves go...maybe (doing it)7-8 inches. And they kind of 'ark' to the left a bit when done in my right hand.
Anyone else get this problem? |

I practiced with an engligh half crown that was huge and heavy. I was living in UK and all the magicians could do it! I was angry with the fact that I was the only one in the group that couldn't. Then decided practice the most difficuld sleight (as it is).
I suggest half dollars. they are the best in my oppinion. Chinese coins are fine too. I do it quite well with right hand now but Im trying with left and it will take some months... |
