Does anyone know the trick where you put a quarter persay in a cup of coffee, then the coffee starts to boil (not a rumbling boil but just little bubbles like soda) aned then when you take the coin out its like melted and smooth or dissolved.
Anyone know of this? Thanks. |

Sounds like a version of "Siver Extraction".

For some reason that sounds like something which goes back to a trick that was shown when alka-seltzer tablets became available. I believe it goes back to about when the "acid" test and its spoon aspect were published.
...to all the coins I've dropped here

This is an effect from David Harkey and Eric Anderson's book AH-HA! The trick is called TORQUE (page 12). The quarter comes out bent.... Easy to do and gets a great response! Highly recommended.

For some reason Kenton Knepper comes to mind for this type of effect. I'm not sure if he has a routine of this type; but his use of language could be put to good use for this effect, if not.

David Acer taught a trick just like this one on his site a few months back. It is called Acid Trip and is from David's book Seven By Michel Huot. In Michel Huot's version the spoon actually comes out with the bowl part of the spoon melted off after the coffee started bubbling like "acid". It sounds like a good trick to catch people off guard with when out to eat with friends. You can still buy the book at many places.
Thanks, -Buddy |

Michel Huot's trick is a variation of the Harkey/Anderson effect from AH-HA, which is credited in the write-up. Michel's version takes a tiny bit more effort to set up (we're talking a matter of a few seconds), but the effect is more organic in that there's a reason to sink a spoon into a coffee cup, so the trick can be done almost off-handedly (i.e. it happens as you're casually stirring your coffee).
