What length of rope do you prefer for the Kellar Rope Tie?

I agree w/Pete; it will depend on the size of your wrists, but for what its worth, I used about 30", and I think I could use less.

I haven't done this recently, but my impression was that it is better to use a rope that doesn't leave too much left after the tie.

I have been playing around with the length for long time. I just can't decide.

I am going to do it on a local TV show. I think I will use a a 4' piece so it can be seen easly. I will then watch the show and see how it looks.

I don't claim to be an expert on that tie, but for myself, I would be concerned that I might get tangled up in too much extra rope(or the spectator might do something undesirable with the extra length of rope). Would a contrasting colored rope give it the visibility you desire?

wish you well with the show!

I found my book on the subject - it says to use a 3 foot length of rope.
The 4 foot has been working out for me. I have my kids tie me up.
I have seen it done with longer rope, but I think the 3-4 foot range will wrok.
Thanks.

It's on Daryl's Rope DVD (vol 2) and also in Tarbell (Vol 6 I think)

The Kellar rope tie is in many sources, but a video presentaion would help.

Tarbell V6
Fulves Self working rope
Daryls Expert Rope Magic(V2)
Encyclopedia of Rope Tricks("Wrist tie supreme", p260)

33 Rope Ties and Chain Releases
Amateur Magician's Handbook(but it would be very hard to learn it from here)

I would also recommend learning the Gysel Spirit Tie, it provides for some very entertaining spirit cabinet routines.

Yes, I have Hull's "33..". I've glanced at it, but not really read or used it. Someday I may get interested in "escapes". It has some other type of rope magic, but that stuff is largely covered in Fulve's or the Ency of Rope Tricks
