Has anyone seen this? It’s fantastic. David is funny, entertaining and shows why he earned his reputation as one of the all time great coin manipulators ( Vernon thought he WAS the best ).
2 effects stand ou: Stonehenge Coin Assembly and The Inside Out Bottle. The assembly can be modified for your own performing style. You don’t need to do the Stonehenge story. The sleights taught are incredible. I got caught with the retention vanish. I knew what he did and then, well, I got fooled. L&L is giving this away free ( I would have paid the price of a 4 DVD set for this ) with any order.

Okay, I am NOT a coin guy. I got this from L & L with an order. Is it just me or does the guy come across as somewhat arrogant? I don't know the guy, and I have never seen any of his material before, and he very well could be the best coin guy in the world, but he just seemed condescending on the dvd to me. It was like he knew more coin magic than you did and he wasn't afraid to let you know it. He's a great coin guy. Just ask him. I don't know, just my take.

One thing that he is very proud of himself for some reason is dropping four coins one at a time out of classic palm. Good gives a crap? Why is that amazing, I have no clue. but yeah, I think he has every right to be arrogant, but he is much less arrogant than many others.

I think he came accross as the oposite of what you observed. Maybe watch the entrie DVD again and see if you feel the same way. For me, I thought David came across as passionate about what he did, but was funny, silly, teasing and EXPERT at what he did and taught. I’d watch the entire DVD and see what you think. Of course I’ve met him, but I’m not using that for the basis of my opinion. I got all that just from this DVD. Just my opinion of course. Magicmaven, the ability to classic palm multple coins and control the dropping them can lend itself to some great routines.

I think I am mainly basing my opinion on how he demonstrated his multi-coin palm. It was like, "Oh, yeah, this is a great move, and look at me do it, and I'll bet there ain't a one of you here that can do it."
I mean even though I don't even do coins, sure, he had some good advice, like the palm should be done from the sides and not the top, etc. But to me, if a guy is like that, even a little bit on a dvd, he's probably a lot like that otherwise, too. That's all.

I think it's just his personality....He is far from a comedian, and just comes
across to me as bland, but I watch him for the fantastic coin magic.....

David Roth came across on this DVD as humble, smooth, entertaining, funny, sharp and EXPERT as on anything else I ever saw him doing.
He's one of -if not THE- best *talker* when presenting his magic. I was invited by Fred Robinson to the *Ramsay Reunion* in the UK way back, but unfortunately couldn't attend. I did buy however the CD-kassette released by Vic Pinto that soley did contain talk/patter/speaches re that event. David Roth, already at that time did stand out.. It was the very first time I ever *heared* him do anything, but alone from what he said, I felt here was an outstanding performer! I had read his releases re the coin box in *Stars of Magic*, but just did read it without it did stick further to mind..hearing him *talk*, did change it all! His patter and the timing he used to deliver it, was way beyound everything I ever earlier had *HEARED* from ANY other performer!!! That *free* DVD from L&L re the DR Lecture is pure gold and shows an artist at its prime! Every single word/line is delivered RIGHT at the correct time..that guy even might be a better speaker then a magician..and that says it all. He wasn't at all arrogant, but really funny (especially for fellow magicians with all the inside jokes and lines) However, I noticed one single routine -praised my MANY!- that didn't impress me at all as an onlooker, and that was his *Coins to bottle*, the *Inside- out bottle* handling.. Maybe I was biased as a *magician* (?) but I missed the logic in the handling.. The effect as a such might be great, but *why* use that handkerchief at all (where is the motivation?), apart from trick-technical *needs*? It didn't make sense to me to show a bottle around partly wrapped in a handkerchief, there was no need for this.. The handkerchief would have been verified, IF the biottle was to be smacked/brooken by use of a hammer f.ex. I also couldn't se any original *addition* otherwise re the traditional handling to put a coin inside a bottle.. His patter was great re the *inside/out* theme, but that handkerchief ?? BUT, mind you, these where the sole concerns re that DVD and they are only *my own*, a single guys observations that especially re this routine had expected *something else*... David Roth nevertheless still is, as Dai Vernon said, the greatest coinworker re entertaining and technically superb ROUTINES! Others might surpass with specific and deceptive sleights (watch CulturalXchange) but re construction, execution and patter of/to routines, nobody however does top David Roth! JMHO

I met David Roth at a convention in Atlanta about 8 years ago. He was very personable, friendly and took time to talk with others at the convention.
He is, as has been noted by others, the greatest coin man around. If I could only do a small portion of what he does, as smooth and flawless as he makes it look, I'd be happy. Ooohhhh...wait...I need to find that coin that I just dropped under the table! |

When I met David Roth in Philadelphia he was very nice, very open to discussion, almost humble yet VERY self-confident... The opposite of an arrogant person actually. Unless some people confuse self-confidence for arrogance, I don't understand such a statement.
My personal point of view. Phedon

I find his work with the Coin Boxes to be out of this world. I haven't had a chance to see him perform live, but would really like to as it seems the video vs. live is so different. I don't like watching footbal on tv, but love watching it live.

Exceptional guy. Very interesting to talk to, and not only about magic. On video, he's amazing to watch. Live, he's like you say out of this world. I suspect David Roth to be a real magician pretending to use sleights...
